Which reminds me. Is "Ant" in the credits of Crises (bass player) in fact Ant Philips, formerly of Genesis?

It's actually Ant Glynne, who's now a member of Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble, so no Genesis connection there...

Quote
If so, then it is one of a few Oldfield/Genesis connections: some direct, and some removed by just "a few degrees of Max Bacon".

- Morris Pert, on a few Oldfield albums, was also one of the members of Collins' other band "Brand X"

- Sally Oldfield was on Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett's first solo album.

There's probably many more.

Phil Collins was already mentioned in the thread which I pinched this from...and of course, the connection with him came via producer David Hentschel, who worked with Genesis before working with Mike on QE2.

Any more connections, anyone?

Morris Pert also worked with Peter Gabriel. And, a more contrived one, David Bedford did orchestrations for Camel, who also worked with Anthony Phillips.

How about this for a tenuous one. On Crises, Mike worked with Jon Anderson, lead singer of Yes. The guitarist of Yes, Steve Howe, worked with Steve Hackett in GTR.

I suppose if you're looking for connections that flimsy, you could connect any two musicans in the whole world.

Morris Pert, who worked with Mike Oldfield, also worked on Peter Gabriel's fourth LP, the "Security" one (curiously released on Virgin). (but Holger had already got that one - stupid me)

Mike Oldfield also worked with Adrian Belew ("Earth Moving")
Ade Belew was partner of Robert Fripp, of King Crimson.
Bob Fripp was big friends of Brian Eno (made albums like "Evening Star", and developped the Frippertronics)
Fripp worked with Peter Gabriel on some of his solo albums (even produced his second one), and Brain One even worked on Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway").

Beat THAT! :D

and Brain One even worked on...

Is ths an inside joke among Eno fans, or an amusing typo?

Thanks, Korg, for illuminating the Ant.

I called this "Six Degrees of Max Bacon" connecting Oldfield to Genesis, because "Six Degrees of Mike Oldfield" doesn't have the same ring to it. Might as well use the name of one of his famous vocalists, perhaps a distant cousin of Kevin.

Eno is very fond of anagrams, so over the years, he has been credited as Ben Arion, Ben O'Rian, Brain One and CSJ Bofop (try to figure out this one, :) ).

Not that this is Genesis related, but if you are interested in Morris Pert music, check out the soundtrack to the film "Dark Crystal".

Carrie Melbourne was the bassist on Mike's last three tours. Her husband Doug plays keyboards in ReGenesis, a Genesis tribute band

I don't know the band members of Genesis well enough to find proper links

Sorry for staying off topic here, but Morris Pert has a lot of interesting music on his own website, http://www.morrispert.com.

Carl Palmer of ELP (Drums on "Mount Teide") >

ELP > Greg Lake

Greg Lake > King Crimson

King Crimson > Bill Bruford (Yes)

Bill Bruford > Genesis (in 1976)

So, you can pretty much link most musicians.

How about an obvious one? Mike to Jarre via Adrian Belew.

A not so obvious one, Mike to Paul Weller via Phil Collins (Phil Played on Mike's album, Phil was in Genesis, Peter Gabriel was elin Genesis, Paul played on a Gabriel album.

1) Mike Oldfield played on stage with Steve Hackett and Fish I believe on 'I Know What You Like (In Your Wardrobe)'. There used to be a bootleg version knocking around for a few years.

2) Also Chris Thompson sang on two MO tracks from Earthmoving and he has also worked with Steve Hackett (although I don't believe the tracks have ever seen the light of day).

Another Oldfield-Genesis connection:

David Hentschel worked with Mike on QE2 and a few singles around that time. He produced Nursery Cryme.

I wonder if this is the reason for Phil Collins' presence on "QE2" ?

The trick is to replace each letter from that name with the letter that immediately precedes it in the alphabet. Ex:
C = B,
S = R,
J = I,
etc. :) He used that pseudonym in U2's "Passengers".

Propably so!
But here's a more far-fetched connection:

On the Knebworth concert Bimbo Acock plays the flute (he's the little guy that Mike carries out from the stage to hilarious effect). Bimbo's brother, John Acock, produced Steve Hackett's third (?) solo album, "Spectral Mornings".

Also, Morris Pert played with Brand X, but I think that was after he worked with Mike.

Speaking of Morris Pert, I remember buying FMO (at the tender age of 10) and seeing the photo of the band on the inner sleeve. The whole band looked like ordinary decent people, but Morris Pert looked plain scary with those sideburns and shades! Morris has a website up, and from a recent photo he looks exactly the same. A true original...
