Watching the Opening Ceremony at the Winter Olympics in
Torino Italy   Tonight  "Moonlight Shadow" was clearly played
as part of the competitors entrance to the Stadium !! There
were quite a few oldie tunes played but the "Shadow" stood
out quite well.... Near the end "Peter Gabriel" did a version
of Imagine which was pretty dam good.. ts not my favourite
song even by Lennon but old "Peter" gave it a great twist with
his old Genesis type vocals !! cool

Was it played by musicians or was it just a recording?

Mmm...the recording with Maggie herself--it started about the time that Liechtenstein's team was introduced and ended just beyond Mike's riff when the Madagascar folks came in--then the music switched to the Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams."

To think that finally, after all of these years, "Moonlight Shadow" has been aired in the U.S.

I have this intro on tape, and will go back and look for this in the "L" section.

The ceremony was broadcasted at around 3am last night, and I stayed up until 5am, but I forgot to watch it!!! I missed hearing Moonlight Shadow live on international TV!!! :(

[Edit]: Does anyone have the clip when the song was playing? Pretty please?  :D

Yay.  I was dozing on and off the couch as I was watching.  My husband said out loud that he knew I would like this song.  I said "Wow, it's Mike Oldfield".  And then he said "It is?  I didn't know - but it sounded like something you would like".

Thank goodness he woke me up.  It was a real treat to hear it.  Up until that point they were playing mostly disco/dance music.  Then they switched to MO, then Eurythmics and then the Buggles!!  Very nice.  It wasn't long afterwards that they were back to disco and YMCA by the Village People.  The worst part was they went to commercial in the middle of the song!!!  When they came back, MO was still playing.  Hooray!!

I couldn't help think about who the person was who had the job of coming up with the soundtrack for the Parade of Nations.  I would have loved to have done it.  Think about the songs you might have chosen, knowing the whole world would be listening.

This topic is also in the news section; please carry on your discussion here, under Moonlight Shadow used at the Olympics. Thanks!
