Mike Oldfield - Uncyclopedia

Don't get me wrong, I love Mike and his music but this really made me laugh.

The picture is hilarious! :p

Thanks for the link. That is hilarious!

Looks to me like it is written by someone who does love Mike and his music. But where on earth does Eliza-mae "bruiser" oldfield come from!

Hope this evolves with time into something even greater

I found your comment raised more of a smile than the webpage did, TBBE.

(And I don't even know what a thick dwarf is.)

I found it quite amusing that by adding things like "Tyrannosaurus Rex", "Magical Chamber Orchestra", "Overdriven French Horn" and "Oscar Wilde" into Viv Stanshalls list of announced instruments in an attempt to take the mick out of the TB finale, they actually made it read more like the Amarok instrument list.  Just need to add "Face Slap" and "Contents of Aeromodellers Toolbox"!

Says someone who derives obvious humour and innuendo from the word "Bell"... ;)

I was once linked both to that article and to the Brazilian Uncyclopedia (Desciclopédia) article on Jean Michel Jarre. Both were excellent. The Brazilian Uncyclopedia has a lot of awesome mannerisms and style of humour. I enjoy reading it from time to time.

Thanks, Modeler, for the link to that page. I was amused by much of it, though I agree with TBBE that it is neither big nor particularly clever (must remember that phrase "thick dwarf" for future use) as I've read funnier (and wittier) things here at TubularBoard. Still, there are all sorts of humor from 'thick' to 'clever', and it's always a pleasure to discover Mike's entries wherever they are. And, boy, does that sentence sound wrong.

That page serves as something of a fan test, as it's very effective to distinguish, among the fans, between the "I'm a fan FUR REEL!" kind and the "life's worth living!" kind.

No, I'm not serious. If you were offended by that... um...

@ BellEnd & Ratty: it's satire. If you're fans 'fur reel' as Sir M. says, it should really make you laugh some fat laughters. :D

That would be the second group, actually. The "tr00 fans" I thought of are those whose love for Mike Oldfield is militaristic and "larger than life", and any negativity towards the artist in question is a heresy. It should be mentioned that this kind of fanatism is far, far more apparent among fans of AC/DC, for example.

The second group is made of those fans who either don't give a damn about the negativity, or actually even enjoy it. After all, for example, I have to confess that my extreme dislike for certain Oldfield albums is part of the game, and in fact, part of the fun. And as far as the Uncyclopedia is concerned, and as far as I can see, the point of their articles (largely) is not to be offensive, but to turn the "offensiveness" into a joke in itself - it's sort of what The Simpsons would be if its writers and producers didn't find themselves the supreme gods of humour and wit.

Sir M, are you sure you aren't taking this seriously?  :p

I had thought the Uncyclopedia entry was just supposed to be a bit of fun. Agree it isn't particularly clever (no idea how tall the author was...) but isn't the idea of these wiki things that smart witty people like TBBE (are you big as your name implies?) can improve them? Or do you think it is a poor idea in the first place for such a thing to exist?

Nice to see Mike looking someway back to his best in that photograph.I was getting a bit worried after seeing that bogus link in the holiday article.

As far as I`m concerned any piece of literature containing the words boobs or pants in there is fine by me.It`s a well known fact that the word "pants" or "In My Pants." can be substituted into the title of numerous works of art. From which subsequently much child like amusement can gainfully  be derived."The Pants Of Distant Earth" is but one example that immediatly springs to mind."Hergest Ridge In My Pants" is another.Ok so this guy would appear to have plumped in the main for the much more obvious boobs option. One man`s meat is another man`s poisson as they say in France.Or to put it another way ...Whatever floats yer trousers?

I must add though that "I Shot Miles Davis 1991" made me laugh out loud unashamedly...     :D

like I said before I can appreciate the effort in nonycycularpidia and no more, it's like a gigantic pie with no filling, or like a blunt pencil. Pointless.

I can only speak for myself here........

Personally I found that hilarious...that pic made my late night..ive needed a good laugh lately and I just got it haha....that album list is way funny and the description of Hergest Ridge.

Though the humour is not to everyone's taste, theres certainly no maliciousness involved imo......does it make me less of a fan for finding it funny??...not at all.......damn i wish i was famous enough for someone to do that to me !!

I wonder if Mike has seen it yet ....hmm.

A new addition:

"There is an interesting note regarding the cover art. Virgin originally intended to use the image of a butterfly or (due to the cost of the palladium compound itself) a less expensive earwig. However, the photographer misunderstood and used a dead squirrel. By the time the mistake had been highlighted, 4 million copies had already been printed so they just had to go with it."

I hear the rare edition with the earwig is highly sought-after. :p
