Ok, this is going to sound rather silly, but i have to post it. I can remember hearing about albums (particularly the Beatles) in the 70s that had "Secret messages" in them if you played them backwards.... well, i thought i'd give it a shot.

While almost all of it was just jargon and sounds that made no sense what-so-ever, there were a few things that almost sounded like words and phrases:

IN THE BEGINNING (TSODE)
"...and dug the wind...you don't know anything...you don't even remember, even in darkness...you need to know the book, you're not experiencing it...the Egypts and the Islams...in the opening, where all kinds of us are breathing...hurry the delays...city of God..."

PILTDOWN MAN THEME FROM TUBULAR BELLS (11:50 of part 2)
"...who are you...what the hell are you doing..."

Like i said, i know its silly, but i had to say it anyway. Anyone else every done something this dumb? wink smile smile

You're right, it does sound rather silly, bu tI guess that's what happens when you play Mike Oldfield records backwards.

By the way, how exactly were you able to play them backwards? Not that I would do it you understand (wouldn't want to risk wrecking my CD collection now) I'm just curious.

All i did was play the CD in my CD-ROM on my computer. when parts with lyrics came up, i recorded it with sound recorder, and then used the "Reverse" option on it. I have an internal microphone as well, so it's not like i was holding the speakers up to the microphone , it's all connected internally.

Hi tubularbills,
what you did is the sort of MO analysis I like. So I tried to reproduce it. I sampled the Piltdown Man section (TB Part 2 from 11:50) and reversed it.
When you do that, and the bit has REALLY been reversed, you recognize that IMMEDIATELY, because the reversed version sounds much more natural than the original. Well...this wasn't the case here.
So I still believe that the Piltdown Man voice was recorded normally, and was NOT reversed.(It says something like "Flubber wach da wonda wall".)
I'll check TSODE when I have time.
Carsten

While we're on the subject of the piltdown man thing, in some parts it sounds a bit like he's shouting some words that innocent young Mike really shouldn't have known wink
I think that's the sort of thing where you can hear what you want to hear, reversed or not...
