just had a crazy idea, but maybe oneday in the near future we could get around to organizing a fan convention, although it may be a little improbable because of the huge scope of places around the world that the users of this forum come from, it would still be really cool to meet up and take the isolation of being a MO fan away!  :D

Ive been a fan for years, and around this site fior a little while, but maybe I missed some stuff. Have there been many conventions?
Whenever/wherever the next one is - I want to be there!

Someone a few years back contributed a post to this forum asking "Is Mike Oldfield geek culture?"

It's rather fitting methinks, that a cult act like Mike, himself something of a Trekkie, should have a convention in his honour.

I just wish there were more fans here in Darwin, Australia, so we could get together for something like that...

In France, we often do mini meetings between fans...

There was a convention I went to the day after the Edinburgh TB2 premier, it was good fun. The other day I was trawling round the various Jean-Michel Jarre websites (don't ask me why) and his fans seem to have conventions every other weekend! It would be cool to have another Mike convention, I would certainly make an effort to go if it were in the UK.

Why not contact Dark Star, as they would probably be the best people to put one on! I've been to the TB2 tour Con. and the one at the premier of TB3! I also went to an Airborne one held at The Beacon! I'd love to see Througham as I've never been there!

Here in Sydney we have 1 or 2 Mike conventions a year. The biggest attendance so far was 4 people. We even have had a couple of international guests attend. Cuds from the UK attended the last one and a fan from NZ made it in 2001.

Whew!!! If we get much more interest we may have to hire a marquee.

But seriously, YESFANZ of Australia & NZ were able to convince YES to extend their world tour to include some shows over here. I have set myself the collossal task of rally as many troops as possible together to get Mike to do a few shows here. He came to Sydney to promote TBII but didn't do any concerts. The last time he played here was during the Five Miles Out tour in 82.

Please lets get together this year (Summer preferably).

Toby.. wanderer...

Hergest Ridge... we could hire some horses & stuff.

We realy should organise an International convention!!!.. most of his fans speak english so we won't have to use Sign! & If we do we can always Sign a smile if nothing else!!!!

:)  ;)

someone pointed out to me that Mike has his biggest fan base in europe, so that would be central for the majority who would want to come.

but how many would come? About 40 regulars here, other chat sites etc?

I think it probably needs one person to start the ball rolling, suggest a location, set a date, then wait for response. Dark star would want to be involved.

it's a nice mystic city...

if it will be anywhere else I prolly won't be able to come :(
but...
I would be glad if you all could come to meet each other:) with or without me:)

I've always fancied a trip to Prague, and the wife says it has good shops, so I'll go with that.

Now then, what size venue? Anyone here know much about the place? And date? Mid summer?

We need some-one nearer to "case the joint"
