Hi , Im new to these forums and hope that i can fit in...

As the title sugests, I want to know if MO is likely to be doing any tours in the UK.  I have been a fan of his for years but have as yet been unable to get to one of his concerts and would give anything to see him live.

Any information greatly received :)

Thanks

Conor

There has been a fair bit of talk about him doing a 30th aniversary of TB tour this year. My advice is never get your hopes up untill you hear for definate, he quite often over the years has talked of doing tours and then not bothering.

However if you ask me I'd be suprised if there wasn't at least one concert of TB performed this year to premote the new version.

I'd love to see him live in Spain actually, those Spanish concerts  from the last tour sounded amazing to be at, lovely hot weather, massive crowds totally up for it, sounds great.

I hope there is a tour, the here and now tour in 1999 had an excerpt from Ommadawn and that was phenomenal, TB2 in 92 was fab, but The whole of TB1 played live would be the icing on the cake. All of mike s music sounds so much better Live

yes... i completely agree with u toby and now that we still don't know how the thing is going to be, as i always say, we can dream...
and i dream one of the concerts could take place somewhere in the balearic islands (maybe a selfish wish since i'm moving there for these matters of destiny and jobs at the end of may) i can imagine the concert in a blue night in a white island and after that a beautiful beach to celebrate it...

Great Idea.....but Hmmmmmm would mean us here in the cold country ( brrrrrr England) get to miss out again. Ahhh to be able to afford the joys of islands, blue seas and beautiful moonlight...but alas.... !

Yes I agree with you Ren, I wonder if Mike will ever come back to Toronto again.  What a luxery would it be to go to an island.  LOL.  I would love to see Mike do a concet anywhere.  But I wouldn't take out a bank loan to do it though.  LOL.  Take care.  Craig.

I think its also likely when Mike next plays live that he'll use the Tubular World VR simulation on stage. He's said for years, from the very commencement of his computer work, that he wanted to incorporate it into the live performance. Imagine if the style of his playing in a live environment, the speed or aggression for example, dramatically affected the visuals displayed!

It would be good if this could be done but personaly I have my doubts that Mike has the ability to pull this off both financialy and technically. I think what he's talked about in the past is having the audience interacting with the visuals and having them determine what the visuals do by pushing buttons, firing laser pens or whatever and he and the band play along accordingly. Personaly I can think of more way's of why this wouldn't work than I can of way's it would but I suppose anything's possible these days. It also begs the question would an audience actualy want to bother interacting? Personaly I'd prefer to sit back and enjoy the music and just watch any lightshow, images etc, if they were done well enough then I don't think there's any need to faff about with extra gimmicks. Somtimes I think interactivity at certain levels can be fairly over-rated and quite pointless.

I didn't imagine the audience participating, I know Mike said that was his ambition but as that technology is, as you said, expensive then I assume that if he does anything the interactivity will be between his performance and the visuals. If we all had laser pens, you just *know* someone would have the genius idea of 'let's blind Mike! yeah!'. Ugh, people try it at concerts anyway. No I just think it would be nice to have some form of VR display considering that he has computer graphic screens onstage normally anyway. We'll see.

And also can you imagine just how many of those laser pens would be handed back by the public at the end of the concert? Not many I reckon. It was during that online interview he had filmed in his studio when the best of TB came out he talked of doing this sort of interactive show and he seemed very adamant that he was going to pull it off in some way.... but as we know Mike???? I totaly agree with you about the use of visuals live in general though, its often puzzled me why for a musician who composes music of such strong visual resonance why Mike hasn't take a leaf out of Pink Floyd's book and developed a really strong visual identity both for his live work and album covers. I think it would have made a big difference for him both commercialy and artisticaly.

ps Speaking of laser pens. I saw Jean-Michel Jarre live a few years back in Glasgow and he looked visibly annoyed that people were pointing their lasers pens at him, which I though was ironic to say the least. ;)

Some reason this board doesnt want to work for me tonight :(

Hello there Craig ....long time no see :p

having had so much bother getting this page to come up I have forgot who said it, but on the subject of Laser pens etc, I personally would find that distracting. I would go to a Mike concert to actually watch and listen to Mike and the rest of the crew. Laser shows etc are fine, but to be able to have any level of control over that I think might take my mind of why I had gone in the first place. And if everyone around me was messing about pointing pens left right and centre then that would be even worse, not to mention the " Wow look what I can do" sort of remarks that might come about.

No, I think if I went to see Mike then I would personally just want to sit there and relax.

Take care all :)

Ren
