Has anybody got a favourite passage or two of Mike playing the acoustic guitar?

There's two passages that always do it for me - that I find so utterly beguiling and beautiful:-

1) Tubular Bells pt2 - just after the initial harmonics and extending to just after 5 minutes or so into the album side.  I just love this section.  For me it's the greatest and most overlooked and underrated section of the album.

2) Ommadawn pt2 - just after the 5 minutes of intro, and leading into his duet with Paddy Moloney, Mike plays the most enchanting acoustic guitar.  Again, as often the case with Mike's "part 2"s, an oft overlooked piece of awe inspiring musical heaven!

There are quite a few acoustic passages that I love from Mike. The most obvious ones are Muse and Taurus III. There is the acoustic guitar at the beginning of No Man's Land (reprise), the passage in Tubular Bells Part 1 from the end of the big bassy organ to the start of the electric guitars (I think it's the section that corresponds to Latin and A-Minor Tune from TB2003), the acoustic at the end of The Lake that duets with the electric before the climax, anything from Amarok, there are just so many. I can't pick a favourite.

Im not quite sure, but I've always heard a classic (nylon strings) guitar on TB1 part 2 - as for ommadawn I need to check. They are indeed amazing and full of mike's acoustic charms.

Just checking here - that still counts an "acoustic guitar" though, right?

The ones that spring to my mind in this very moment are the second part of TV-AM from Amarok, and the end of "The Inner Child". "Muse" from Guitars is very nice as well.

where I come from theres a major difference - but I guess it goes down to terminology in the end of things.

I do think Mike plays differently on Acoustic and classic.
He'd use his famouse hamering rather on the acoustic and would play solos with long neck slides or just fast chords on a classic.

I would count both types as 'acoustic guitars', as opposed to electric guitars. They are both part of the general family of acoustic guitars.

The two members of Acoustic Alchemy [even if it's not the same two members as when they started, but anyway... :)] play instruments that, when they talk about them, are collectively referred to (by them) as acoustic guitars. Yet, when you check the credits for individual songs in the booklet, you discover that one of them plays a 'nylon string guitar' and the other one plays a 'steel string guitar'. I think they got a really nice way of avoiding any confusion, by never mentioning 'classical guitars' or 'acoustic guitars' at all. :)

I would add:

The very end of Tubular Bells part 1. The acoustic guitar outro is downright chilling.

Still on Tubular Bells, the entire use of acoustic guitar on part 2 up to the bagpipe guitars is brilliant.

The part of Ommadawn that Jules mentioned is worth gold, too. That, along with the bagpipe melody, is one of the best moments of the album, imo.

Acoustic bits of wonderful land and the ovation solo in Get to France stand out i think. And the acoustic bass at the end of Ommadawn part II, thats just amazing :)
