(The original) Hergest Ridge has always sounded to me like a description of a quiet spring day in the countryside which is suddenly upset by a thunderstorm, and, when it is over, the peaceful feeling returns with a very fitting and splendidly melodious conclusion. Of course I had already heard all of this in a 1800s piece of music by a certain Ludwig...
I'm jokin', of course. I'm neither comparing Mike to Beethoven, nor HR to the Pastoral Symphony, but it seems to me that both pieces really evoke the same images, at least in my own mind.
As for the others, I agree with all of Sir Mustapha's attributions; I'd add some parts of Taurus II to the early evening section, because it seems somewhat fitting to me... [Don't ask me why, please. ]
