I think Mike is waiting the best moment for him to get it released  ;)

I wonder if we will all be adding it to our Christmas list this year? :-)

I doubt Christmas would be a good idea, because he will be on the Proms tour in December, and i'm sure he would want to promote the book with maybe some signings, like Nick Mason did for his Pink Floyd Book.

I can't see Mike doing book signings, can you? Remember Nick Mason is a very warm amiable guy who is well known in Floyd circles as someone who keeps in close contact with the fans. I'm not saying Mike can't be warm or amiable but he certainly doesn't strike me as the sort of guy to do book signings some how.
It would make sense for him to release it either in conjunction with a tour or an album release and if an album release is years away and a tour is sooner then a tour it might be.

I remember some pics at the now defunct oldfieldmike.de (photos page) of Mike doing some CD signings in a Tower Records store in Japan(to promote TB II),he even picked up an acoustic guitar and played for a while, but with books, things are quite different, maybe.

He needs the right moment to release it,and it would be nice to see Mike back to the spotlight with autobio and something on to support also(tour/new album).

Do they have a merchandise area at the Proms? I've never been, so I don't know these things. Even if he wouldn't be available for signings at that time, it would be really good to have copies of his book for sale, if it is feasible.

Personally, I think that he should be available for some special signings at various bookshops. As either I have mentioned in the news thread or meant to (and you've caught me in a non-merging mood <-; ), another good venue would be the Hay-on-Wye literary festival. Sting was there a year ago promoting his book (and I don't think the book was brand-new at that point). The next festival will be 24 May through 3 June.
Here is a link to info Re: the festival. Now--that's also a place where we could have one heck of a meet-up--and......it's very close to Hergest Ridge, unless you get lost. ;)

I see no reason why Mike would'nt do a few book signings, but also he would probably be doing lots of other press/TV work too.I just think December would be way to busy for the book launch.

Yeah, but publishers aren't going to care about what's convenient for Mike. They try to target things like holiday sales. If it doesn't get released by December, it will be because of their schedule--ah...and what will be expected to sell the best.

Just giving this thread a little bump. The Oldfield site doesn't seem to have anything more than the February posting saying "... later this year". I had hoped that there might be some news - like a release date - by Q4 this year but no signs yet. Anyone heard anything?

Cheers

Matt

Yes, during the same season he releases the full properly-remastered "Orchestral Hergest Ridge" on SACD, which he performs as part of his world tour.

Yes. Not to mention the orchestral version of Amarok, scored for Cello, double bass and kazoo.

Is that the one that has an interlude where the Klingon duo from "Caveman" sing "To Be Free" ?

Har Har flipping Har chaps...

I understand how jaded you might be about Mike saying he's gonna do something dead exciting and then nothing happening (again) but I thought this was now in the hands of Jon Collins and therefore might actually be completed?
