I know for sure that he doesn't like HR - he said it in an interview where he gave a list of the 10 fav songs he wrote, but he didn't mention any fav albums. I guess though that TB 1973 is still among his fav ones. :)

I don't know. That interview (which should still be in the Articles section here on tubular.net, BTW) was called "Mike Oldfield's 10 favourite tracks". I gave an extensive browsing to that section, but I wasn't able to find a single interview where Mike mentions his favourite albums. ;) Maybe you're luckier than me? :)

He always used to name his latest album as his favourite one.

Two quotes from interviews:

Quote
"To choose my favourite albums from my own discography is really hard. Of course, 'Tubular Bells' is in, but to be honest I'd choose several excerpts from different albums".

2003, Mike Oldfield "Tubular Bells" reaches thirty years old...

Quote
Q: Tell me about three records you feel the most satisfied with, neither mentioning "Tubular Bells" nor the new one.
A: "Ommadawn" was a very fullfilling one... "Amarok"... I loved working on that record, it was quite a challenge: I didn't use any computers: all sounds are produced by instruments and that gave a bigger value to me... "Tubular Bells II."

1995, Close Music from Distant Earth

HR reminds him the time he'd lost his mum. :/

:/ Wasn't aware of that(reminds M.O of losing his mother) Listening repeatedly to HR album just before, and after my grandmother died was a kind of comfort to me.My father died on this day(5th nov)back in 1995.So ,brings some deep sentiment to me ATM (although not in a very sad way, just to reflect on their good memory) :)

I  remember reading a M.O comment to do with HR album, that went along the lines of him hearing that strange people were to be seen on hergest & dancing naked in the moonlight -it must have been quite some vision :O

Wow, TB, Amarok, Ommadawn, TBII (and TSODE which was his latest album at the time) are my TOP 5 favourite albums. I feel a kindred spirit now.

Here is that top ten list (Mojo November 1998), in case it's of interest to anyone and the searching for it isn't going too well.  Even though the article discusses tracks and not albums, there is a certain correlation with what Eeton found  (e.g., TB, Ommadawn, and Amarok are mentioned; the Mojo interview occured around the time TBIII was released and two of the listed tracks are indeed from it--the concept of his latest work being his favorite).

BTW, it was interesting to read his comments about the use of the vocorder in FMO and the girl's voice in FATC, considering the work he's gone on to do with the Cantor and Vocaloid stuff.

I found Hergest Ridge album a great comfort to me the last week or so, having just lost my Dad.

I wonder what Mike thinks of people dancing on Hergest Ridge whilst wearing clothes.  Skyclad (naked), isn't for me   :/ .  I must go back to The Ridge again, and dance, well I've been loosing weight. Maybe I'll be able to dance to the whole of the "Thunderstorm"/"Martian" Section, without stopping  :) .

Yes I know maybe I'm nuts, but it's great to be so inclined at times.  :D

When I can get some money together,( have seen a few jobs with the Civil Service in local paper, with good pay too, that I'm thinking of applying for) and transport to get to Kington.

I was thinking of the summer for the Hergest Ridge Danceathon.  I'd like to maybe make it middle of July, celebrate my 35th birthday in style    :)  :D .

Sounds like a great idea to me!! (The dance on HR, not the skyclad part--I'm partial to clothes, myself! ). We can dance to the entire work!!! *inviting herself along* What a wonderful way to celebrate the big 3-5!! :D

The only thing is between now and then I'll have to get some money and transport sorted out.  I may be car-less for a while.  I could go by train to Hereford or Leominster, (it's free for me to travel on the UK rail network :)) then it's having the problem of lugging cases from the railway station onto a bus to take me to Kington       :( . Still where there's a will there's a way :) .

I've never thought about dancing to the complete work,  so I'll probably make a spectacle of myself, but to be honest I don't care  :D .
