What is the latest news/ rumour on Mike's new album/music as announced on his website as a 3 part intrumental harking back to what he started in the 1970s? For example:-

Will it co-incide with the autobiography (take it almost certainly not)?
If not, does anybody have any ideas about its possible release date?
Which label is it going to be released on?
Any news about the content or players?
Any news about the possible name of the album?

Be nice to keep an eye on this but I cant see any hard news having strolled around Tubular.net....is there a forum I'm missing??

will it be any bell on it?  :D
just kiddin..

I have been thinking about that to lately..
is it Mercury? who will be the company?
I must confess; my very high hopes about this album. I' very happy hes chill out period is over now. He really need at fresh studio album with no loops and stuff. "Light & shade" is for me, only a experiments album. Mike is not trance... Like "slipstream" and "Romance", even they are such good songs for the genre thought..
I was afraid he felt totally for this style.
In the last month i have been mixing his music alot for a new mix album and this one have everything from 70's until now. His different from the old times is he use of the guitar. From the last album his guitar did only the melody, or solo.
The Piano, synths and loops did the rest of the job in his songs. (it is nice) but i love his guitar so much and i hope it is alot of guitars on the new!! Just listen to the freaking amarok!! Must be thousands of guitars!!!
Anyway..
all mike touch, that he create, will be he sound.
You can hear it is Mike whatever genre he plays it.
Trance, vocals, ambient or country, you can still hear him.

Another thing is!
He wanted to make a album to tour with.
Is'nt that a lovely sentence?????
If i guess right, i think he is ready like a bird with new wings :)

I certainly haven't seen any news since that announcement.  I guess that we won't hear anything much until the album is ready, or almost ready.

Tubularman - I disagree that Slipstream and Romance are good songs for the trance genre - in my opinion they are the worst two tracks on Shade.  Quicksilver, Tears of an Angel and Nightshade are much better.

Yeah....haven't heard a thing lately, just that it is expected to be released in 07 as opposed to 08. I'm ha-happy to see him doing longer pieces. There is room for both formats (he should have listened to IQ years ago if there were any doubt--should be listening to them now, anyway). "Longer" never meant "70's" or "dateness": it only meant "choice."

Mike has been in touch with Karl Jenkins and Mike Ratledge of Soft Machine and Adiemus fame lately.

The proposed concept features an all classical album with a huge orchestra and only acoustic guitars. Mont St. Michel might be a good example for what is to expect.

It is very likely that the album will be released on the Universal Classics label.

But as we all know, plans might change from time to time. So let´s wait and see.

Hmm.. Universal Classics? A bit like Vangelis on Deutsche Gramaphone? Marketing a different audience, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Well, if rumours are to be believed, this is good news. No wonder the music press have such a hard time with Mike, they just can't put him into a box. So many different genres - one album all on his laptop, the next all orchestral.

It's a pity the "press" can't hear a decent tune and appreciate it!

It reminds a bit of what Dirk Hohmeyer said to the fans on the German Fanmeeting...sounds interesting and it can be a mature work from Mike :D

WHOOOHOOOO!!!!! :D

I love Mike's longer pieces, to me they still sound as fresh and exciting as the day I first heard them, to me they don't sound stuck in the '70's, far from it. other albums of that period have seemed to date more than others, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust is  one such example, good though it is Hunky Dory has stood the time much better.  One of my all time favourite albums is Queen's A Night at the Opera, this is a classic, has stood the test of time, "Sweet Lady" and "I'm In Love With My Car" do sound a bit '70's but is that a bad thing, no I don't think so. I think an album that is as groundbreaking as ANATO DESERVES to be one of the greatest albums ever, who else apart from Queen could combine, Vaudeville, George Formby style ukelelee, classic rock, and also operatic vocals on one album and make it work    .
I'm so glad Mike has decided to return to his roots  :) .

Inkanta , I've heard of IQ, but have never heard any of their music, is there anywhere I can check them out.

BTW I love driving whilst listening to  I'm In Love With My Car

Light & Shade has a couple of similarities with Platinum - it has short tracks and is significantly different to what came before (Shade, anyway).

It is a loose comparison, but there's a good reason: imagine if Mike is now working in reverse, producing albums like Incantations, Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge over the next 5-10 years...

That is true..

But im happy with his choice of chill out music.
It is a genre i really love, and "the Tres lunas period" have given me so much energy. All the mixes out there from the game and the album. So for me, Light and shade was the last breath from it.
Angelique is still one of my favorite track, Nightshade included.
Simple style works well, and he can make it.
But now, i start to miss what he did before since he have not done that on years now   :p
That the good thing about it.
New times, new long instrumentals..
exciting.... ;)
what else is there???? :)

I forgot where I saw your question, so I ended up posting about it in the IQ topic, here. When I was nearly finished with the post I remembered that you had asked over here (good grief--it's not like there are a billion new topics, and I could have searched under your name, and this week....afterthoughts afterthoughts). This is exactly why I don't imbide very much--hard to believe I've only had milk, water and pomegranate juice today, eh? ;) (But I'm really, really tired. Whining over.) ;)

No seeds in the pomegranate juice, I hope? Wouldn't want you to be stuck in the Underworld for six months every year.

I've heard a bit of Adiuemus. Their music in the vein of 90s Mike Oldfield (minus the guitar and the beats!). Quite new-agey and commercial classical productions with lots of ethnic influences. It what way would Karl be involved? Composing? Arranging? Anyway, Karl Jenkins is a fantastic musician. Most people remember him for the being the person that wrecked the Soft Machine, but I love the albums he did with them - I even like "Land of Cockayne"!

Mike Ratledge's involvement in the Adieums project was programming percussion on the first album. Soft Machin is more of his "fame"!

Anyways, where does this rumour come from? I'm temted to belive it's true because it doesn't sound like the usual "Floyd plays with Led Zep and the pyramids att full moon"-type rumour.

I absolutely love Karl Jenkins and Adiemus.  So if there is any kind of relationship between him and MO on the next album, I think that is excellent.  Very exciting!!!!!

The source (of secrets) is Mike himself and Dirk Hohmeyer from the Nokia Night of the proms.

Hahaha! Actually, no, but I've consumed so many seeds over the years that I'm certain to be there for eternity. Actually....Re: "hot as hell," "hot as hades" they weren't talking about the atmospheric temperature, but more about Hades himself (one of mythology's best kept secrets, hahahah), so it wouldn't be so bad, really. :D :D :D

It depends on your sources. According to Xena, Warrior Princess (you see, I leave no stone unturned in my researches, and I bet this is not a source you've considered), Hades is a bit of a wimp, and his Queen is the real, conniving power behind the throne. Still, I suppose that either way, you win.  ;)
