Hi all, has Mike sold any musical equipment lately? Very interested in some of the Gibsons, PRS CUSTOM.

As far as I know, in recent history there have only been 2 major clear-outs of guitars, once in 2006 when Mike moved from London to South Gloucestershire, and again in 2007/8 when he moved from England to Mallorca. In both cases Chandler Guitars in Kew, London (http://www.chandlerguitars.co.uk) handled the bulk of the sale of surplus kit. Unless our friends in Mallorca know better?

Headlining act in the first sale was the TB Telecaster (which did not sell), and in the second sale the Stratocaster (which did sell).

In fact Chandler guitars still have a non-guitar item (a Fantom xr multiplex) from MO's collection from the last sale, an item they seem to be finding difficult to shift. Definitely not a guitar though!

I think i seen it in some MO tv interview where he was in boat or something and in end he was inside with some people and there was tubular logo birthday cake.

I want see how it ends...i think guitar is quite special because it seems its unique made for mike.

well it's certainly a collectors item - but I wouldn't want to play it so it's not for me.

I believe it was made for presentation to Mike by Virgin Germany.It's in the instrument section on the main site.

Just checked.It's a Hofner Shorty model 181 made between 1982 and 1986.Mike's one was a special order (note TB emblem on truss rod cover and Mike Oldfield inlaid on scratchplate).

That guitar is somewhat special for it has been a gift from Virgin Germany for the 10th anniversary of Tubular Bells which has been celebrated aboard the R.S. Hispaniola on the river thames in the heart of London.

There is also a sign on the back of the guitar wioth the enscription: To Mike from all your friends from Virgin Germany

I saw some kids programme was back when (around 85 i think)when Mike came on he was playing this very guitar.He said then it was from "his friends in Germany" so finally it makes sense.

That's the one.Can't see that it would have used on any records ("Hmmm" thinks Mike "shall i use the SG,the strat,the PRS....or the Hofner Shorty?Tough decision!")as the article suggests but looks like a funky little thing to practice on.

Many thanks for uploading the two TV videos. It is amazing to track the life of this guitar all of the way from Thames riverboat in 1983 to Ebay 26 years later.

These early videos seem to be incredible survivors. Since they must date from very early in the days of VHS how on earth do we still have them ... and what gems must we have lost!?!

Thanks for that.And there's the Hofner.Comapring this to the May 2009 interview he sounded a lot more focussed on the 1983 interview.The 2009 interview he seems kind of bored and distracted.It was all about TB so he must be bored stupid by it now!And very effusive about HR i see.Seems like a remix is on the cards after all.BTW i'm not going to be around till the beginning of next month.Work holiday and i intend to do nothing!
