Does anyone have any info on Mike's harp/s? I miss him playing it on the recent albums

I did see it once, though I forget much about it.

I know that it's of the celtic type, rather than the more complex concert variety. I believe it was around the 34 string type size. On the rest of the details, your guess is probably as good as mine...

The celtic harp is actually called a Clarsach. That might help if you are searching the Internet and things. The only real difference (as far as I can make out) is that the Clarsach is smaller than the orchestral harp; it can be carried around more easily than the huge ones.

IMHO, if it is played well then it can be one of the most beautiful sounds ever heard. Sound modules and synths don't get close.

The other difference is the complexity - the concert harp uses pedals in order to change the key that it plays in (they are tuned to a scale), while a celtic harp (or folk harp, or lever harp, or indeed Clarsach as Mat said - its Gaelic name) has a system of levers to do the same job (each lever affects the pitch of one string - some harps will have one per string, others may have just a few levers or even none at all, meaning it has to be retuned with a wrench in order to play in a different key. Some use hooks to do a similar job to the levers). The pedal mechanisms are quite complex, which is what makes concert harps so big and heavy...

Of course, Mike cheats and plays harp sounds from a guitar now (he claims that it's not possible to get a good harp sound in a live concert, though the electroacoustic harps I've seen would seem to prove him wrong)...maybe some day he'll be persuaded to bring some of the more adventurous instruments out of the cupboard once again.

i didn't know mike could play harp. i've never seen it mentioned in his album sleeves. i think its cool. I think he should learn how to play drums. Then he wouldn't need anyone else because we know he can sing because of Heaven's open.
