Although he is not classically trained, if he were, then i think he would write for orchestra in such a rich and varied way. You can hear it in his orchestrations of his own music, the way he creates textures and unusual sounds. I would say this is one of his greatest strengths as a composer. Something I feel has been a bit lacking in his more recent works is the care and attention to detail of the overall sound that used to take place. Can the new album become something like the orchestral parts in The Millennium Bell / Art In Heaven consert? Just a thought... For me the special thing about Mike and his music is the way he's handling the guitar and the way he composes his piece of work. Love the way that works on Incantations and Mont St.Michel.
