I'd like to know if Mike made videos for the singles off TB3, Guitars, M.Bell and Tres Lunas? If so which, and are they downloadable off the internet, as haven't seen any of them!! It's a pity that I don't get to see pop videos so much - since the axing of 'The Chart Show'. I only get to see them on 'TOTPs 2', but they haven't shown any recent Oldfield videos recently - not since 'Women Of Ireland'.

I don't think any singles were released from Guitars and MB. There was talk of them releasing Amberlight as a single with Nelson Mandela doing a spot of narration over it but it never happened. I never saw any video for Man in the Rain, was one made?
There was a video of To be Free using bits of animation from MVR, you can probably download it somewhere there was a link going about at the time of its release but I've no idea where it is now.
Personaly I think we should all bombard Virgin/WEA or both with  requests for a 30th aniversary DVD featuring all the video's Mike's done and any interesting live/TV footage there is kicking about.
I can't believe Mike's 30th aniversary will  only marked by the release of the new TB. Somebody do something interesting, it can't be that difficult all other acts/artists of similar vintage have box sets galore why not Mike? It's a pain in the arse he's split between two record labels it obviously complicates things.

TOBY!

This is a very good idea. I have long waited for a DVD with that content but later on giving up the hope that someone would release such a thing. Now, when you brought the thing up again I got all this enthusiasm flowing in my body and I am already working on some kind of mail that we as a group can send to Virgin and WEA. When i finnished written it I will post it here for gramaticla expertise and other kinds of feedback. It should be some kind of strongly but kindly written. Not harmfull in any kind. I am working on it now though.

I live in the UK and I remember in the early '80's, sometimes in between programmes and adverts they would occassionally show pop videos, and I remember seeing - I think it was the video to 'To France'.  I just wonder how many videos Mike made altogether - and how many of the older videos still exist and could be found for future release. The earliest one I remember is still my fave - 'In Dulci Jubilo'. I remember thinking that it was really clever the way they split the screen up with Mike playing a different instrument in each screen!

The Elements video ( I presume you can still buy it) contained a few of the old videos including In Dulci Jubilo and Incantations part 4 (excerpt). What was more interesting was the Wind Chimes video which is now deleted I think. It contained all the videos for the Islands tracks plus Five Miles Out, Shadow on the Wall , Shine, Pictures in the Dark and Moonlight Shadow, To France was curiously missing.

It must be stressed that by today's standards most of these videos are fairly naff it has to be said. I think Mike himself has even said so. Thats why I think any 30th aniversary DVD would have to have something else as a selling point as well as the videos's. Live footage, documentary film that sort of thing. Can we persuade Mike and the record company's that its worth it?

Luckily, I've been an Oldfield fan for ages - unofficially, after 'Portsmouth' came out, but I became 'official' when I bought 'Moonlight Shadow' and 'Crises' - they were my first Oldfield purchases. I think that one of the most interesting things about the 'Elements' video - apart from the interview, was the alternative video footage to the 'Islands' promo.

I think my least favourite videos are 'Crime Of Passion' and I think that it was a shame that 'Women Of Ireland' was just a re-hash of previous videos.

I wish that live footage that came out in Australia would come out again - I can't remember which '80's show it was from, and it's a shame that the tracks were edited down!! I think was called 'Tubular Bells - Live' or something.

Yeah It was called Tubular Bells Live. I once saw it for sale in a Virgin Megastore in the late 80's and didn't have enough money on me to buy it. It wasn't there the next day and I've never seen it since. I think its a real collectors item now although I have heard its not very long and the sound quality is terrible.

Its a real shame, there must be tons of live footage out there that will never see the light of day. What I'm hoping for is a time when everyone has ultra fast internet conections and high quality video streaming is available to everyone. Then maybe these sorts of things will be available to download from vast libraries of archival recordings.

I've e-mailed David Porter to suggest that 'Dark Star' put Mike's promos on it. It's a pity that videos date a bit - more quickly than the music! - unless they made videos with cartoon animation - drawn by hand not computer because computer graphics date, or animation like 'Wallace & Grommitt' using plastercine models!!
