Ebay is showing a George Lowden LSE 2 for sale which "was used on the world premier of Tubular Bells 2 in Edinburgh in 1992 and the subsequent tour"

I suppose it was inevitable that a guitar or two from the recent sale would end up on Ebay, although it seems a bit of a shame.  I thought Chandlers handled the recent sale pretty well, the prices were not unreasonable bearing in mind some of the historical pieces that went up for sale.  I hope the ebay winner buys to play rather than as a piece of memorabilia.  The signed document is the same as mine (I bought the Ramirez from Chandlers) so I guess is from the recent sale.
Maybe Mike will buy it back after all!
Here is the guitar: The Ebay Lowden from TB2
It's currently at £200.00 (reserve not met).

Oh, well... I think that the seller is a fan that has bought it thinking on keeping it but now needs urgently the money...

Why I'm saying this? Well, item has been marked as 'Will arrange for local pickup only (no postage)' That basically means...

1)  ...that the item is only available to eBay UK... If the guy would really want to make real money, he could have made the item available worldwide: I'm sure several japanese or US fans have enough money...

2) ...that the guy wants to meet personally the buyer and get sure that is a real fan and that the Lowden is in the right hands.

Well, maybe I'm too confident in the goodwillness of the mankind :)

I would agree with Wayfarers comments about the local pickup requirements,  This is hardly conducive to a maximising profits on Ebay - although I wonder whether this is naivety from the seller or a lack of confidence in shipping it around the country via couriers.  It certainly does put major restrictions on the sale.

I hope whoever buys it plays it.  This was something Chandlers kept hinting at, that Mike wanted the guitars to be played (possibly with the exception of the TB Telecaster).

Nooooo . I have bought plent of thinkg local pick up by having my own courier pick things up, even from the US - I think this is a ploy to save having to organise shipping from someone who has sold over 300 items on ebay - so this guy is not naieve!!!

£760.00 now... (around 1000 €) and still reserve not met...

How much can be the reserve price for this gem? ;-)

how much did Chandlers want for it?  £1500.00?  Someone else has suggested around £2500.00.   The seller is right to put a high price on reserve.

Hi there!
I don't know how much Chandler would for it, but
the auction has ended and.......nobody has bought this guitar, because the reserve price was higher.

He told me that he would not give out his reserve price as he wanted to get the most out of the Auction.

What the hell is the point of that.

He also said  "like all my auctions I am going to let it run to get the most out of it".

Shame but if people were upfront with the reserve price it would save alot of wasted time.  I would have bid but I couldnt be bothered going in blind and faffing about.

Chandlers - I Suspect it was about £2000, but buying from Chandlers is a big difference from buying from an ebayer I would suggest.  Also the certificate from Mr Oldfiled will have the first Buyers Name on it - this all reduces the value.  So the likely hood of getting more that anyone paid at chandlers is low I would imagine.

PS Anyone want to buy a Les Paul Junior TV Special

HA!  Sorry Auction Ended    :D

Hi Ray

I speak French and I am not sure to understand these sentence. Could you explain it to me? Does it mean that buying from Chandlers is less expansive than buying from an ebayer ?!

Thank you

Regards :/

Eh?  Ebay says "The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale."
The auction wasn't supposed to finish until next week!  I feel sure there would be the usual last minute buyers with realistic offers.  I guess he must have sold it outside ebay for what he wanted for it.

Sorry about the bad english - it,s just code to prevent educated people understanding what I write.  Most of which is using a hand held blueberry which does not easily let you review and edit.

I mean that I (and others) would probably pay more to Chandlers than to an ebay seller, partly because the certificate given by Mike names the original personj who bought it from Chandlers and partly ebay is always slightly more risky than dealing with a reputable shop.

Also - I made enquiry to get a price of the guy as I would have offered for it and he was adamant he would not tell me the reserve as he wanted to realise the best bid.  The way to do that on ebay is not to pull the item before the end of the sale but to set a very high reserve and let it run.  then contact the highest bidder to re-offer.

if you pull the item early you may be missing out on the best bids.  Anyway I suspect it was pulled as it didnt look like it was getting good bids or he decided not to sell.

I would have bid in the last 10 minutes.
