Just posted a video earlier relating to Minecraft. Hmmm, yeah why not, here it is again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B0gg58y02A
I made a comment when I originally posted this comparing the above video to To Be Free - videos *about* a project as sort of adverts / declarations of love for the projects themselves. I then realised there are in my mind a few similarities that can be noted between Mikes MusicVR projects and minecraft (OK, some of them a bit tenuous but what the heck ). So here are some below:
- The music videos about the project as noted above. Only really To Be Free I can think of for musicVR but if it was released these days I can imagine youtube fan videos popping up!
- Both fairly open ended, both about exploring the world rather than specific goals being the main purpose
- social / collaborative. Playing online with musicvr or maestro often involves exploring together and creating your own goals (e.g. finding new bugs ). Minecraft servers seem to be similar, people discussing together where to go, what to explore or what to build.
- art style more important than latest whizz bang graphics. I think I've mentioned this before when talking about musicVR. The simplicity of the art style used in musicVR or minecraft I actually find one of the timeless charms!
Note if you don't know what Minecraft is, it is a computer game currently under development for PC's where you explore and build. Sortof like digital lego but actully much more to it than that. Some folks (I have two in my family,) LOVE it, others can't stand it. More on the Minecraft website here if you are curious. Note I am not involved with Minecraft and haven't even played it. Just relating some observations!
Another minecraft video for your amusement, one of three I found doing a search!
