In another thread I got my lunar and solar eclipses confused. It reminded me that to aid your memory mnemonics are a very good idea. Where you take the first letter of things in a list and come up with a memorable rhyme or phrase. One to help you not get your celestial bodies mixed up, as I did, is this:

position of planets in relation to the sun

Men Very Easily Make Jugs Serve useful Nocturnal Purposes

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto

Quite a sweeping statement!

Then I thought how could you remember the chronolgical order of Mike's albums, should you ever need this information if tubular.net is not to hand? Not the compilations just Tubular Bells HR Ommadawn etc and I came up with the next thought that there are so many, it would be too difficult. He really has given us so much music, and quite diverse too, in the last thirty years or so.

Back on topic, an old maths teacher of mine used to get us to memorise the formula for quadratic equations by singing it to the tune of Men of Harlech, a very popular Welsh song. I still can remember a bit, but don't know why I need to. What are they for, quadratic equations?! :/

I have no trouble remembering this (including Exposed), other than forgetting which came first Voyager or Guitars, or forgetting where TKF comes in. (I also have no idea on where in the order XXV or other such compilations come in).

"My Very Efficient Mind Just Sums Up Nine Planets" ;P
(that's what I've always used)

As for the order of Mike's albums...You're right, there's so many! :p I might have a go at this, though - could be fun when I have nothing in particular to do... :D

The first mneumonic device (hmm...maybe the only one) I learned pertained to the spectral classes of stars--OBAFGKMRNS--O Boy A Fine Guy/Girl Kiss Me Right Now Sweetie. There are lots of variations on this.

Having lots of better things to do but obviously not engaged in any of them at the moment, here is my quick and feeble attempt. There are three sets and (obviously) some incorporate the album name. Truly, I find it easier to just remember the album-order. :D

Please Quit Finding Colorful Diamonds Hiding Their Icy Alluring Ethereal Shine.
Victor's Guitar Turned 3 Mice Totally Lascivious.
