Had a dream last night that Mike was going to perform a track on TV, and then I would interview him after that for 30 minutes. The track was going to be "Sirius" (Tres Lunas) - that's what the producer said. (?) In this dream, I was all for doing the interview, but the nearer it got the more I was expecting the producer guy to give me some cues and list of questions to ask Mike. None were forthcoming, so I went to see him and he suggested I ask Mike about when he first got diagnosed with Tourettes. I said, "what? he doesn't have Tourettes." He said he thought he did, then made a link to Mikes phrase, "never mind about that, how big's your bottle!" I said you can't start an interview asking questions like that - that would start us off on a bad footing. How about Tubular Bells? then - he said...

So, <big sigh> I walked away and thought, no,  I can't do this his way, I'll have to think. I came to the conclusion that I didn't in fact need a list of questions, and reminded myself that I'm a counsellor by trade and know that good conversations are not planned - they just evolve. Felt better then - I didn't need to hear anymore of the producer's crap.

I woke up after that, before I interviewed Mike, which was disappointing.

There's a morale to the dream. It's something about digging deep and finding your own answers. Taking the narrow path - not the wider path (grasshopper). ;)

Anyone else had a Mike Oldfield dream or any dream with a morale to the tale?

Hi Wiga, dreams all cry out for Freudian analysis. To me the interesting details of this dream are Sirius (sounds like "serious"), and "tourettes", which seems to me to connote not the psychological disorder but a "mini tour". Ie, Mike doesn't do mini-tours.

Nightspore - yes, I like your interpretation there - Sirius (serious) and Tourettes (min-tours).

In the dream I'm thinking why is he only playing "Sirius" - that's a bit random, and I couldn't recall how the tune went until I played it this morning.  I like it, but I can't see how Mike would be serious about coming on a TV show just to play "Sirius" and be interviewed. It's a serious mini-tour that doesn't make sense. Like you say - the reality is that he doesn't do that kind of thing.

According to Freud dreams are wish-fulfillments, so a Freudian might say you have a wish to talk with Mike on a serious level, perhaps enquiring why he doesn't do mini-tours (eg one in your area). I'm not sure about the symbolism of the bottle, except in the loose sense of a kind of transparent container (= an invisible barrier surrounding Mike, something preventing him from doing something?).

Coincidentally, I've just finished writing a story in which the main character starts to think that the world around him may be a dream, so he applies Freudian psychoanalysis to his environment to see whether it obeys dream-logic!

Could Memento Mori II-The Return of the King.  be in the works?
Keep going this way mate and the world will stop reading Stephen and change to Daniel :D

Actually nightspore, you're very good at interpreting dreams (and writing books). Maybe we should offer a dream interpreting service here on tubular.net.

Milamber; - would you like to start first - do you have a recent or recurrent dream you'd like us to interpret?

Thanks, Wiga. It seems strange to me that Freud is often disparaged, because I've often gained quite remarkable clues about what (it later transpired) people were thinking simply by using his insights.

Cooper; - I see you are focussing on Freud's 'phallic theory' there or maybe 'penis envy.' That could be very relevent.

Nightspore; yes, Freud was a great pioneer - I admire his work too, but I'm glad some of his ideas have been revised and modified. He seemed overly fixated and hung up on the psychosexual language and 'sex drive' theories. He was at his best when helping patients recollect and express the repressed and forgotten traumatic emotions responsible for symptoms of anxiety and depression. He started something pretty good though.

0h here we go, plucked up some courage for this one.
Just let me get comfy on the couch first
Interperate these...
We invited Mike and his wife around for dinner one night.
Mike talked about his next new release, and I felt privileged to know first hand what it was.
However, with all respect, the strangest thing above all that i remembered in the dream is that he smelt of Old Holborn?
Even crazier, my wife dreamt that Mike was her Physics teacher at school, and she's not really a fan?...I'm jealous

Sure Wiga I'll be your Huckleberry :D

Dear Doctor Wiga i.u.t.b.t and Doctor Nightspore w.n.o.r.
I need an interpretation for a dream I had 28 years ago.

In this dream I had a pet Penguin that had a TV in its stomach
He died in the dream and I woke up crying.
Was I crying because he died or because I was half way through an Episode of Battlestar Galactica.

I feel an interpretation is needed here as this greatly affects my transom through life..  :)

Right Michael - are you sitting comfortably;

In the dream you have invited Mike into your home. Your house represents your soul and your journey through life. Your wife is your passenger. Your familiarity with Mike in the dream signifies that he is an extension of yourself and represents you.

I think the key to this dream is that although you are generally comfortable in your own skin (home), you have a desire to reveal more about yourself (new release). This may be about a need to be seen for who you are, or about an area of your life that requires honesty and truth. The smell of Old Holborn signifies strong associations with past feelings and experiences which may intrude or get in the way of living life to the full.

Peace and bright blessings to you. :)

Ok Milamber, I shall have to blow the dust off my dream interpretation book for this one.

This lovable pet Penguin represents you. This is a sad story about a phase in your life when you were a child. On one level the dream warns you that too much TV is harmful, but on another the TV may signify a worldliness beyond your years, a time where you experienced too much and shouldered too many responsibilites. Your tears are your feelings of loss for the boy you were and his lost innocence.

Peace and bright blessings to you. :)

Dream interpretations often make me quite irritated, because they so often consist of (and this is the case here) a person (the "expert") telling another person "This means That. Your dream has one absolute meaning." People, dreams are highly personal things, and no-one can definitively say what they mean.

I am absolutely fascinated by dreams, and it saddens me when they are treated as such a cold, scientific, mundane thing.
