Have any of you heard Moby's new album Hotel? What do you think of it? I quite like it. I don't enjoy it as much as Play, but there are very from albums that I do. Raining Again, Beautiful, Lift me Up, Where you End, Temptation, Love Should and Slipping Away are all songs from the album I very much enjoy. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite at this point, but it might by Where You End.

I think it's one of the best albums of the last 5 years or so.

It's playing in my car for 3 weeks in a row now, and I'm not tired of it yet.

I think he should sing a bit less, and let the female vocalists sing more.

No - ahem... Joking. :D His simple, dismissive, down-to-earth, don't-tell-me-I'm-a-good-singer-because-I'm-not attitude to singing :) is something I like a lot, ever since "Porcelain". My favs are "Beautiful", "Lift me up", "Temptation" (better than the original IMHO), "Slipping away" and "Forever", but I like 'em all. I also like the quasi-ambient stuff that he came up with in the main Hotel CD ("Homeward angel" and "35 minutes", the ghost track at the end), and I also like most of the totally ambient stuff that he came up with on the second CD. :)

I don't mind Moby's voice at all. It's a similar situation to Mike's singing on Heaven's Open really, a lot of people don't like it but I do. I'm not really a fan of the second disk however, I suppose ambient music just isn't my thing. By the way Ugo, how did you find the name '35 minutes' for the hidden track? I haven't seen any mention of it on the internet anywhere. Perhaps the amazon.com reviewers haven't figured out that there is one?  :)

On www.mp3search.ru, a legal downloads site that I'm subscribed to, track 15 of the first CD is called like that. ;) The title may be not really corresponding to Moby's intentions, and it may also be an invention by the site's webmasters ... Indeed, on the same page, "Beautiful" is called "Raining again - 2", which is very clearly a mistake.

I agree Raven,

Play was one of THE albums, one of those "came from nowhere" albums that just about everyone owns now. It was the Shawshank Redemption of the music world!! Now theres a film....and a new discussion thread!!!!

Bought 'Hotel' the other week and I was very much looking forward to it as Raven knows, but you can't help comparing it to 'Play' and be ultimately disappointed. I like Mobys simple dismissive down-to-Earth don't-tell-me-I'm-a-good-singer-because-I'm-not style as well, very well put Ugo, but sometimes his stuff is so simple it sounds like he wasn't even in the room when he recorded it. I bought the 2 cd set but the Ambient cd doesn't do it for me, I'll probably never listen to that but I like the main cd. Haven't listened to it enough yet to give a solid opinion so will get back to you. Might be a little while because I bought the Gorillaz 'Demon Days' on Friday and I just can't stop playing it, I love it, anyone heard it?

Is 'Play' supposed to be the best Moby album? If so, I'm not going to bother listening to his others, his music is for me, too shallow, which is why it has become so well-known, I suppose.

'Porcelain is nice', but in a one-dimensional way, the more I listen to it the less I think of it as good, I find this with most of the mainstream music ever made, I say most because there are exceptions such as Queen.
