The latest release of Cubase VST (the sequencing/hard disk recording software) has an interesting looking virtual bass plugin with it. It has controls for altering the tone in various ways (the sound is actually physically modelled), then you can pick the strings with a virtul plectrum. Something like that could be interesting to include (I'm also thinking of dark star's far above the clouds game here).
A part of it could have visuals generated by the music itself - alter the music and the visuals alter as well. That kind of thing is generally only used to create patterns, as anything else starts to involve complex software. A landscape that evolves along with the music would be fun as well/instead of that.
Releasing the whole thing on CD ROM seems like the best option to me. The internet is slow and costly to many people, and DVD is not really widespread enough. It would be nice to see it available for both Macs and Windows PCs.
