Here's a question for you all.

I have read comments about the Orchestration of MoTS, that Karl Jenkin's "style" is very strong. I am not a classical buff, so don't know about that. But i do feel there is something missing, that Mikes compositions could have had more complexity, more "Thrill Power  ;) . That is something his earlier works where Mike did everything have.

So, who else could or should Mike have worked with in transposing his compositions fopr the Orchestra?

I was listening to the theme and music for the latest series of Doctor Who, and was struck by Murray Gold's work. So there's a suggestion.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Yanni? well i like Yanni also he has some good orchestral/classical stuff...but he is new age composer. I like his way that his music doesnt sound too flat and repetitive (= boring).
I dont think nothing could go wrong if Yanni and Oldfield were made something together :P

I think he may have worked with someone in the film soundtrack field - someone like Hans Zimmer [dream, dream, dream... :D], Danny Elfman, Thomas Newman [no, that's not Tom Newman!!]. Or maybe, better, he could've done everything by himself. He has proven he can, on stuff like Lake Constance and Mont St. Michel, so why not do it on a whole album? :)

Robin Smith did the orchestrations for The Millennium Bell...

Mike did as much as he could for Music Of The Spheres - much of the arrangements are his, done with samples on a computer. Karl Jenkins has helped him turn that into something which can be presented to orchestral musicians and played. I don't think it would be sensible for someone at his level to try and do it himself any more than that - the software can only get you so far. Of course at an amateur level, it's fine to maybe spend an hour or so going through the music and making sure there's nothing weird in there, but if you're paying for a top studio and top musicians...well...you could get the whole album recorded in that time and be a good few thousand less out of pocket by the end of the session!

And what about David Bedford?
