I recently got Amarok and Earth Moving as gifts -- odd combination, I know

-- and I think I have noticed a musical connection that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere as far as I can see.

The link concerns the "Let There Be Light" motif from TSODE that was "introduced" on Amarok at 8'37. From what I hear, that motif actually first appeared on Earth Moving, in the guitar solo of Far Country between 2'47 and 2'49.

Am I crazy, or does anyone else hear that connection, too?

There's a melody (which is the one I recorded a cover of last year) which is reasonably similar to the melody to which 'she takes the rain, and turns it to sun' is sung.

On the TSODE motif - it's basically going up then down part of a pentatonic scale; I'd not be surprised if it can be found elsewhere in Mike's music too...
