Hello there,
Hope I didn't post this topic in the wrong forum... :)

My wife, who hadn't paint anything for ages (several years, actually), agreed to make a painted reproduction of Tubular Bells's cover for me

Here are the different stages of her work:

What do you think of it?

Kind regards from Paris!

Atane.

Wow! They're wonderful! Simply wonderfiul. I hope you have the painting hanging somewhere special to be enjoyed. Love the sea, it's fantastic. And I really liked the fact you'd photographed the stages of development of the painting, nice idea. She is very talented and I hope this inspires her to do more, Mike related or not. Thanks so much for sharing them here. Wonderful! :)

That's a fine thing! And really interesting to see it take shape, gradually. Congratulations to your wife (aren't you lucky?! ), and thanks for showing us.

It's really beautiful, and it's great to see the progression of the piece. My favorite shot is the one where the canvas is upside down.

I thought that my wife was an artist, this goes way back to when she was my girlfriend. It was on a winter's evening sometime in the late november of the year when it get's dark in England very early, any way she asked me over to her house for the first time. It was a clear brisk evening so  I decided to walk and as I got closer to her house I noticed clearly even at a distance that her curtain's were drawn, but thank goodness as I neared her front door I could see the rest of the house was real.

Atane, your wife's painting is absolutely fantastic.

You are absolutely priceless BBE  :D It took me several reads through before I understood! Drawing curtains!!!

And yes, Sweetpea, I too liked that upside down image, isn't that strange? Perhaps it's because it's such a strong image that we identify, it is so clearly defined.

Yes, seeing this familiar image from a different angle is a little startling, but the moment of recognition feels unusually satisfying. Or, it may be that I like how it shows the artist doing whatever it takes to make her piece just right. Then again, maybe there is some sort of psychological symbolism at play - an upside down TB keeps all that tubular goodness (tubularity?) inside rather than letting it run out like one which is rightside up?

Oh, and thanks, bee, for the explanation to Big BellEnd's joke - much appreciated.  :D

Atane - that is absolutely wonderful! Are you going to have some prints made so you can sell them to us? :D

Hello everyone!
A few words to explain a few things about this painting...

First, to answer the first question, it took between 1 day and a half and 2 days to Karin (my wife) to paint this.  :)
She did it as a present for me as I am an Oldfield fan, while she is not (yet?)  :p  This explains why, at first, she was not very keen on hanging this painting on the wall...but as she read all of your commentaries, I more and more think she might change her mind!!  :)
She enjoyed painting this so much that she is considering going on painting. She doesn't know what for the moment.
Maybe 'Mispaced Childhood's cover as we both are Marillion fans, or maybe 'In the court with the Crimson King', or 'Rock Bottom'...I don't know.
I've received many incredible offers to sell this painting on ebay... I must be clear about this once and for all, this is a present for me!!  Sorry to disappoint you.  :p

Anyway, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone of you for all the kind messages you've sent to her.
I'll keep you informed, should she decide to paint each and every other M.O cover...to then open a Gallery...who knows??  :)

Best regards from Paris!

Atane (and Karin).

Groan :p

Your wife's painting is fantastic Atane. I know where to come if I wish to commission some artwork :)  :D.  I'd love to see some more of her artwork.

Regarding King Crimson's In The Court Of The Crimson King, fantastic album and artwork, quite possibly one of the greatest albums ever. I know my only problem with hanging a painting of it on my wall is I do find the cover a bit scary.

Very beatiful work (specially if your wife wasn't interested in Mike's works). You're lucky, she is very talented.

For those who might be interested, she just finished her second painting.
It's the cover of Marillion's Brave:
