Ehhh, another compilation? "Greatest Hits"? Does that mean they will include some of the commercial single-only releases?... Err, whatever.

It would be strage, seeing as this release is only 1 month away that we have'nt heard of it sooner, but it is a D.V.D. and we do need some more releases of Mike's work on D.V.D. ;)

If it's going to be a DVD that would be absolutely fantastic. I would prefer a live recording but a 'greatest hits' thing would also be great if they do it properly, with lots of tracks and some nice extras. I hope they do it properly.

It is not showing up on Blackstar or Amazon in the UK even as a pre order. If they were selling it,it would be there by now

It's been mentioned in Record Collector magazine (as the German and French parts of geinoh's post already say...), and I believe it is indeed not an album but a DVD collection. I imagine it would be something along the lines of Elements, but no doubt with different material. However, I have no information other than that - it could turn out to be a mistake.

These things tend to feed of themselves. A rumour here is reported as fact elsewhere. Journalists can be lazy creatures (unless any members are journalists, in which case they do a hard and fantastic job).

As with so much else, I'll believe it when I see it.

But, just assuming it is going to be Virgin cash-in, and the space available on DVD, here's hoping for Elements plus interviews and promo clips.

It would nice for MO.com to clear things up and tell us one way or the other.

Well this sounds awfully like the album Virgin released in Europe last year called Mike Oldfield Collection... that has stuff up to 1991 all the normal things and Pictures in the Dark.
Just a thought..

Any info on any 'extras' they may include? It would be nice if they included something rare or unseen before.

Is there any info over at MO.com? Or has Mike lost complete interest in anything released under his name.

There's nothing about it at mikeoldfield.com...I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions from that, though.

I think this ought to be a fairly interesting release, even without any extras. It will be interesting to see whether they include any extra interview footage, whether they just use what was on the original Elements video, or whether they just scrap the idea altogether (hopefully not...).

It's interesting to see Don Alfonso in there, considering how Virgin have never released that on CD, let alone video. I'm mildly intrigued, actually - it's very unlike Virgin to be releasing this!

Sorry, but it's not just another Best Of,because firstly, non of Mikes video's have been released on D.V.D. before, and some of the video's in the list above have never been released on VHS either, plus the enhanced sound,so,i think this is a very worthwhile release!!!.

It's a totaly worthwhile release and very welcome indeed. Some fans have waited ages for this. It does seem weirdly out of the blue, given that the music world looks incresingly like its given up all interest in Mike.

It would be a bit of a wasted opertunity if they didn't include anything new beyond the videos. But who knows? Maybe it's brimming with hidden extras.

This better be true!! I know I'm naturally trusting and defensive of Mike, but all the criticism and reports of him and his website have made me just slightly doubtful. I would absolutely love such a DVD and there is nothing to make be think that it won't come out, but an official comfirmation would make me feel a lot more certain. I've e-mailed mikeoldfield.com asking for a confirmation that the DVD will infact be released. I'm holding my breath.

Hi I asked Sendit.com about this DVD as it was on their site I wasn't able to order it so I asked why and the reply was .....

Mike Oldfield - Elements - The Best Of (DVD) (Region 2) - 11th Oct 2004
Cat. No: 5999899(EMI RECORDS (UK))

Bad news I'm afraid! This title has been withdrawn from sale for the time
being. We are currently waiting for updated information from EMI RECORDS UK.

This could be a production problem, or some legal issue. Please keep checking
our site from time to time. As soon as we get confirmation from a reliable
source, we will update our site. Sorry for the bad news.

So another DVD rumor hits the dust.
D.
