They've created a site, with a two page interview, done a ~20 minute 'webcast' and run a competition. That's more than Warner seem to have done recently... Virgin is interested in Mike and Mike is interested in Virgin. We'll see how it may continue. On another side, there's not a big choice of major record companies really - most of them are part of a small handful of multinational companies. Back to top

Unregistered Posted: Aug. 10 2001, 18:50 This news must be official or it wouldn't be on that site so I think Mike must have really been convinced that it is the right decision to do it. Thankfully Richard Branson won't be his manager this time around (as if he fitted that description before) and WEA didn't promote The Millennium Bell in the UK one little bit so, as long as its just a 3-album deal or something and not a major long term thing this could be just what Mike needs to regain BIG sales in the UK. If Mike has signed a couple-album deal then that would give him the leverage to leave if he was't happy, so the pressure would be on Virgin to support him more this time around. Hopefully! Please have a look on the last DS issue. it is poor. have a look on Mike Oldfield saying , on the raft interview: DS have a poll sice one year about the next place for his next concert, and he didnt know.... he sayed: uhhhh i didnt know the poll...they must put it on the website a few days ago ( it is there since ~one year!) what the f*** is official. Millenium Bell was too much like "MO plays Vangelis, Enya, Rondo Veneziano, Monty Norman, Bits that didn't make it onto TBIII, etc. I suppose it's fatuous to say that TBIII didn't sit well with I and II (it's Mike's concept to do what he likes with), but I rather wish he was less-swayed by the desire "update" his sound, or copy the styles of others. The MVR music sounds like "real" MO again. I actually think a re-recording of TBI would work rather nicely. Somehow, listening to the Berlin DVD version sent a tingle down my spine the same way as when I first heard it. Somehow very close to the original, but different ! Matt. Back to top

There are precious few places where you can read original articles such as an exclusive interview with Terry Oldfield, see exclusive pictures of MVR, exclusive interview with Simon Heyworth, exclusive article by Phil Beer and an exclusive article by Pierre Moerlen. Sure the current issue was very late going to press, but that was unavoidable for a whole raft of personal reasons. Mike read issue 22 of Dark Star on the morning of receiving it and contacted us with feedback by lunchtime the same day, discussing it in great detail, obviously having read its contents. If you are not a subscriber and would like a free copy of issue 22 so you can judge for yourself, please send an email to chris@mikeoldfield.org?subject=free copy of issue 22 What's the problem with Mike suggesting he does not know about the poll? Mike did know about it because I discussed it with Caroline before it went up... Since the mini tour that was originally planned is not now taking place, which was the reason for putting the poll up in the first place, I guess that this is no longer of interest. In any case we only publish confirmed news from Oldfield Music, not rumour. This rumour has been doing the rounds for 2 years... and I can confirm direct and officially from Oldfield Music that as of now, Mike has not signed with Virgin. Paul. Back to top

As long as the info is good and regular i will be happy. Now, is this 100% confirmed because i for one will be happy to pick up a MO disc with the virgin logo attached. Back to top

In the natural course of his career, Mike and his team speak and liase with a large number of people. There are cases where some discussions might leak. Some leaks are true, others are not. In the interests of integrity, credibility and maintaining a professional relationship, any announcement that Dark Star might make is only made when confirmed and agreed that it can be made public domain.
