Hi all

Now that the shiny artefacts that are the Crises and FMO box set/deluxe reissues have entered our world, would it be greedy as to speculate how the rest of the reissues will pan out?

Given that the recent reissues are happening in pairs and that Oldfield has already said the reissues will end with Heaven's Open (presumably because the Mercury Albums aren't licensed to Universal yet), there are two possibilities:

1. Discovery/Islands then Earth Moving/Amarok then a cursory reissue of Heaven's Open.  Discovery to perhaps contain a few Killing Fields outtakes and re-versions.

2. Discovery/TKF then Islands/EM then Amarok/HO - if they decide to treat The Killing Fields as a full release (well, it will be the 30th anniversary...)

What do you think?  What extras/rarities/rumoured tracks would you like to see on the deluxe versions?

There are plenty of b-sides and live material (Viareggio!;) to include with Discovery, and perhaps even alternate versions of tracks.
Barry Palmer has mentioned an alternative mix of Poision Arrows. In the Pool was at least tried out with vocals. Music for the Video Wall is a Discovery-era track, right?

With Islands I'm not so sure. No live shows during this era sadly. It is said that Mike did rehearsed Man in the Rain around the time of this album. It's possible that Magic Touch/Islands/Night's on Fire are available in different versions with other singers than the released versions.

What I really hope for (just wishful thinking I suppose) is that more material was recorded during the Wind Chimes sessions. If Mike had the Moerelen Brothers & Bjorn J:son Lindh over to his UK studio, perhaps he took time to record some more than just the short snippets he used for the Wind Chimes part II?

Profound apologies for calling MO's 1987 album The Wind Chimes.  It is of course Islands.  And to think this was the first Oldfield album I bought on its release.  I hang my head in shame!

Sorry, Music for the Video Wall is more Islands-era than Discovery.

I just listened to it. Truly apocryphal stuff. Actually, it doesn't sound like it was intended for release to begin with.

Of course there's also Pictures in the Dark (geeky but fun) and Shine (I find this too cringeworthy to cope with) plus Legend, which has so far not surfaced.  I'd love an extended version of the second part of Legend... always thought that theme worth pursuing.

I though of them too at first but I found them more apt for inclusion on some sort of singles collection since they were released in the years 1985-86 when no albums were released, and they don't have the "feel" of any of the albums.
(just my opinion, and I thought the same thing about "Mistake").

Hopefully when we get to the Killing Fields we'll get to hear the stuff that didn't get used.  Mike was on fire in the 1980's, could be some real gems.
