i recently discovered them through a song that impressed me,
sleeping sun...

the sun is sleeping quietly
once upon a century
wistful oceans calm and red
ardent caresses laid to rest
for my dreams i hold my life
for wishes i behold my night
the truth at the end of time
losing faith makes a crime
i wish for this night-time
to last for a lifetime
the darkness around me
shores of a solar sea
oh how i wish to go down with the sun
sleeping
weeping
with you
sorrow has a human heart
from my god it will depart
i'd sail before a thousand moons
never finding where to go
two hundred twenty-two days of light
will be desired by a night
a moment for the poet's play
until there's nothing left to say

great lyrics
:)

What do you think about Therion?

Therion.....

Hmmm, well, some of their works sound a bit too "grunty" to me, but "Theli" and "Vovin" are two of my fav. "heavier" albums...

Talk about resurrecting older topics....I thought I'd posted about Nightwish -- prob in "what are you listening to atm"  -- so many pages to look through in that topic! But anyway--I absolutely LOVE Nightwish and am addicted to the orchestral Dark Passion Play. That didn't come out until years after this topic started, so I am wondering if years later, others have also found their way to this band. IMHO, "Eva" feels so much like HR.  It is stunning, pastoral, breathtaking.  NW may be a symphonic metal band, but their music is wide-ranging and includes very delicate, gentle, captivating sweet parts that don't let you go.

I discovered Nightwish while searching the web for any version of "Walking In The Air" I could find. Hearing their version of this great song, (and after shedding a few tears) I began buying thier CDs. What a terrific group! Sleeping Sun is one of my alltime favorites and I think most people would enjoy this "undiscovered" group, full of energy and passion!

I don't like them a lot. They sound to me like a complex Evanescence clone [yes, I know that lots of bands did Evanescence's genre before Evanescence, but I came to know it through them!]. However, I like Within Temptation, who are more or less similar.

Gothic........... mmmmm, no thanks

Hell no. You can that prom-dress metal thing anything you want, but not gothic, because using the g-word might fool someone into believing it has something to do with goth rock. Which it hasn't. I spend lots of time defending goth rock and I have no time for something as utterly commercial as Nightwish, Evansence etc. Those bands look and sounds like they were produced in a market research laboratory somewhere;

Hmm...seems we can't sell more than half a million of these death metal albums! How to expand? Wait...I have an idea. Let's remove all that complex musical stuff. The girls don't like that. So there, that's one million albums sold. But how do we get to the guys who are not really into music. Easy! Just add what all boys like; a girl! That's two million. Let's have the girl wear a big princess dress too, six year old girls love that. That's five million.

Ghost Love Score sounds pretty epic for a symphonic metal song. Most of the stuff from their Once album is enjoyable.
