In previous discussions, we've never really been able to work out even how many copies of Tubular Bells he's sold - it's always depended on whose figures you want to believe (a likely figure would seem to be between 20 and 30 million). Mike said fairly recently that none of his albums has sold less than a million copies, so I think that 50 million wouldn't be a bad estimate for a total number of albums sold. There might be some more precise data out there somewhere, but if there is, I'd not be surprised to see reliable sources giving conflicting evidence.

The Millennium Bell booklet says: "...Mike Oldfield has sold well over 40 million acclaimed albums world-wide..." The number has probably grown since November 1999 so 50 million is possible.

Yeah the original Tubular Bells in its self has sold near or over 40 mil in the 30 years it's been out in the world. I would estimate today's count of all albums combined would be near 51 mil.

Did Mike not say in that 'Through the Keyhole' interview on TV with David Frost that the sales of TB are always exaggerated by the media and that he personaly looked into it and found out it was between 10 and fifteen million? The truth is probably nobody knows for sure, I read an article about Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in which Dave Gilmour said nobody really knows for sure how many copies it sold because when it was first released the record company didn't keep track on how many copies were being produced, probably the same with TB I reckon.

Interestingly enough I read recently that TB2 is still one of the top 10 fastest selling albums ever in the UK, selling something like 1.5 million in first few day's of its release. I wonder if TB2003 will be anywhere near as successfull.

The actual quote from Mike on "Through The Keyhole"was "Approximatly 9 milliion!!",i still have the episode on video, and that was in 2000/2001,so,i guess it could be over 10 million by now!!!!!!
