I just realised we were in a very good period, I mean Mike issued 2 records (Tr3s lunas, Tubular Bells 2003), 1 double(Light+Shade), 1 a sound track (Tr3s lunas II) 2 video games, 3 dvd video(Elements, Art in Heaven, Exposed), 1 audio-dvd only in less than 6 years.
Thanks Mike :D  :)

Westlife, Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud etc are extremely productive. Does that fact alone mean that what they produce is any good?.

Interesting observation. The only item in that list that I think I can do without is Light and Shade. All the others are pretty well essential to me (I'm assuming here that Exposed finds its way into my Christmas stocking.) MVR has me completely hooked; TB2003 turned a piece of music I'd stopped playing any more into a piece of music that I play with pleasure; Tr3s Lunas and Tr3s Lunas II are simply indispensible; the Art in Heaven show is one of the best live performances I've ever seen and heard ....

L&S is the only one of these that I question, and really that's a very small proportion of the whole. So yes - I can't quibble about the conclusion. Thumbs up, almost all the way.

What a great time to be a MO fan , all these releases :) .  Is just one thing though, this is directed towards Virgin/EMI, Why no 30th Anniversary of Ommadawn?

Queen have just released a 30th Anniversary CD/DVD of A Night at The Opera, as NATO is widely regarded by both fans and the public to be their greatest work  :).
It's a pity the 30th Anniversary  of Ommadawn came and went and  well no reissue. That would be fantastic to have a reissue CD with a DVD of "The Making of Ommadawn" film, as I could only get nine minutes of the download to play, and sound/picture quality was poor.
It's unfortunate for Mike that other albums have been overshadowed by the success of Tubular Bells. I know of cloth eared nincompoops who have said "Tubular Bells was the only decent album Mike Oldfield  has made" , WAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! :( , I  then ask them if they've heard any other of Mike's albums, to which the reply is often "No".

Anyway re Ommadawn, I'm sure there are many who would love to see a 30th Anniversary of Ommadawn reissue as detailed above. Especially since Ommadawn is regarded by many as Mike's greatest work. Didn't Mike say himself the guitar climax ending on Part 1 was his own personal favourite.  :)

Well those people you mention don't do as much work as Mike, like compose, play most of the instuments, produce, engineer, etc. They more or less just sing. But in there genre what they do is good. And in Mikes genre what he does is very good.

I'm getting extremely fed up with the "pop is crap" attitude. Kylie Minogue is really good at what she does.

No, I'm not saying pop is crap. Music is a a matter of taste. If you don't like some singer or band because of their musical style, it doesn't make them untalented, they are just not to your taste.  My point was, that pop bands tend to sell in huge quantities and release songs almost weekly, but quantity does not equal quality. As it happens, I like all the albums Sonilink mentioned apart from L+S, which it would be fair to say I detest, but others on this site love it. Tr3s Lunas is, to me, one of his best albums ever, but plenty of people here hate it. I totally agree that we are lucky to have so much product from Mike, but there are a couple in those six he probably shouldn't have bothered releasing at all. But that's only my own view. As far as Kylie goes, I'm not a fan at all, but I have to admit that 'I should be so lucky' was one of the most catchy tunes I've ever heard. Now I've admitted that, it's going to be in my head all day long! I hope you're happy now  :)

So was Mozart and so is Philip Glass. If you don't like Westlife or Mozart, it hardly matters whether they produce lots or little. But if you tend to like Mike Oldfield, surely productivity is not so bad at all.

I'm not sure that Tres Lunas II counts, as it's not an official release.

Now all we need is a true "rarities" compilation, to cover all the B-sides and hard to find tracks.  That is what I REALLY want!
