Has anyone heard Oldfield music played in odd or unusual places?

I've remembered a few from over the years. This is in the U.S. where any play (other than Theme from the Exorcist) is unusual. "Moonlight Shadow" got 0 airplay over here.

- Soaring, orchestral section of "The Killing Fields" used an an advertising campaign to promote CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. This was likely from 13-17 years ago.

- "Finale" section of "Orchestral Tubular Bells" used in ad campaign for Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium.

- "Taurus 3" blasted real loud at a ride at an amusement park (Cedar Point)

Most recent:

- "Wind Chimes Part 1" used as background music for TV advertisement for Busch Beer company.

I have a video, a education video for the EU (I'm a teacher) where the background is In The Pool

Though probably not in the same vein, my old school used 'Etude' as music for their play.

This was way before I was a fan of Mike's music. When I heard Etude again now knowing that it was a work of Mike's, a memory sparked off in my brain of this event. I remember a friend of mine at the time it was played commented on Morris's percussion backing, saying it sounded like your ears popping. In the end I only got to hear it once as I wasn't involved in the play

I think "Moonlight Shadow" is pretty standard music for PA systems in supermarkets and stuff around here, along with "Sultans Of Swing".

I also heard a brief extract of "Let There Be Light" on a TV program once.

Moonlight Shadow often gets played on the radio here. Even though I never listen to those radio stations, I have a friend who had heard it a lot. I don't think I can remember any other instances of hearing Mike get played anywhere. I'm sure there must be some though.

Forgot this one: Sometime, probably shortly before the Alaska Oil Pipeline was constructed, I want to see a movie at the theatre. The film was preceeded by an advertisement that was unusually long even by today's standards. It was a 30 minute commercial for the Alaska Pipeline.

The music in the background for the whole thing consisted of the "Exorcist" part of TB1. There was some variation, but it was still something like a 30-minute bit of music based on themes in the first few minutes of "Tubular Bells".

Does anyone recall running into anything like this?

Wow. 30 minute commercial. That is excessive. And such a boring subject too: did anyone fall asleep?

Music kept me awake. I tried to track it down afterwards, with no luck.

Hi,

I heard years before "Guilty" as a background music for a short film in cinemas in France, for the Gaumont company I believe...

Allegedly, at the end of 80s part of Orabidoo was a background music in the Hungarian television. Unfortunately I don't remember it. :/ However, Dark Star is still a background music in a breakfast news program. I heard Portsmouth in a pub two years ago... And in Hungary there is a radio that plays music of all kinds - I heard once playing the whole Incantations at 3 A.M. in this radio. It was a great experience! :)

I was in the car once with my friend and an ad came on the radio about singles and it used The Sunken Forest from TSODE as the background music. That was odd.

I don't know if this may be considered 'odd', but here every time that TG2 (the evening news on RaiDue, RAI's second channel) has a story on space, planets, astronomy or generally science matters, its background music is always, invariably, Oldfield. :) And not only TSODE - over the months I've heard bits from HR, Inc., Omm., TB, TBII, TBIII (The Inner Child, TOTM) and Guitars. So I should say that TG2's music consultants sometimes have fairly good tastes in their soundtrack choices.  :)

Channel 4 once used Top of the Morning when doing a montage of horse racing clips and the Fast show used Moonlight shadow when the "eco" warrior appeared.
There was a series on Radio 4 which used TB2 as a signature tune. Also in the show the main charater was making a doorbell to play Tubular Bells when rung. I can't remember the name of the show
D.

I recall Mike's music was played in an episode of Baywatch =) I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a track from tubular bells 2. But now that I think about it, I can't imagine any track that would fit ;-) Perhaps anyone knows?

I once heard woodhenge as background music for a TV program in the Swedish Television. Also, "Moonlight shadow" is played sometimes in radio: "...and that was, er, Mike Oldfield, in a shrill tone apparently?"

It was "Sentinel" that was heard on "Baywatch". It was at the time of the release of TB2. I guess I was lucky that during the 10 total minutes I ever saw any of "Baywatch", I caught this bit.

it was quite long ago.. but if my memory works well, i remember hearing an excerpt of tubular bells in the heading of a sports programme in the spanish tv in the early 80s. i'd dare to say the programme was 'estudio estadio', maybe some other spaniard could confirm this or correct me if i'm wrong.
