Just a little fun idead I had. Oldfield and Jarre have 3 minutes to wow you at a grand piano for 3 minutes. Who do you think would be the most impressive and why?

now this isn't fair!!
Maybe if they went to do a combat game on the computer, then their chances would be equal!!  ;)

I think mike is a good pianoplayer, but jarre is probably more of a piano expert  :)

A guitar duel would be cool too

Jarre: *Mike, help me, I can't find the keys. and what are those 6 metal wires for??*

Well you say that, but imnot so sure if jarre is more of a piano expert. I think Mike would make a more musical and compelling performance. Jarre would set up a tape of rimbert playing and then pretend to hit the keys ;)

Based on an emotional response to both, Jarre can not come close to Mike.  Mike would win with no question.

What about a technique/technical approach?

Hmmm...interesting.  ;)

I think nobody wins...or perhaps it's a "win, win situation"?
As for a guitar competition...don't forget that in his youth JMJ was playing Strat in the punkband 'The Dustbins' and electric bass guitar at his previous concert. :) I think a difference though between them is that Jarre have all the music in his head but he likes to gather people around him and "boss around" a little. Mike use to prefer doing everything by himself.
I think maybe in the album Geometry Of Love you can hear some more somewhat classic grand piano from Jean Michel...  :D

Guys... I love mikes music... but you have an unfair option here, Jarre studied classical piano as a child, although abandoned it.. He still uses Keyboards and piano type styles... no matter what anyone says here, I think jarre would have an upper hand. jus like saying "Who would win in a duel on Guitars? Mike or JMJ? well, considering JMJ didnt play the guitar as his main focus of an instrument as much as mike... although he played a little in his youth, id say mike would win that one hands down.

Its an unfair argument, as Mike, in all his brilliance, didnt focus on black and white keys as much as JMJ.

I like them both, and alternate my listening to suit my mood. I would love to hear a combined composition with Jarre doing the twiddly atmospheric sounds that he does brilliantly and Mike leading on guitars. A joint concert, with lights and lasers at a world class venue or cityscape (canary wharf?) would be the concert of a lifetime.  :D

If they would have to play live , then Jarre would be the boss, but only for Francis Rimbert. Jarre wouldn't play too much live, and i hate, yes i hate this in his carrer !!
But i think Jarre would do more effort on finding sequences, sounds, atmosphere. And i do think he is better in this than Mike.

As for Mike, whom i like sososo much, he prefer real live music and he could play live more and more tunes than Jarre.
