@ admins: if this doesn't belong here, please move it.

I'm currently listening to Music of the Spheres, for real this time :)
The overall impression is of a very beautiful and very well-built contemporary classical work. There are obvious similarities with Mike's previous works, not only TB... I'm hearing very strong reminiscences from HR, Inc., Ommadawn part II, Mont St. Michel and many, many more fragments from elsewehere. Some pieces are a little bit soundtrackish, but I guess that nowadays everybody who writes music to be performed by classical orchestras ends up with something sounding somehow like film music. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. :)

The main purpose of this post, however, is not reviewing MotS. I'd like to ask everybody here iof there is anyone who's kind enough to write down the words to "On my heart", the only album track featuring lyrics. It's sung in (Italian) operatic style and the lyrics are very hard to understand, at least for me.

EDIT: There also is a choir bit sung in Latin (or pseudo-Latin) at the end of Shabda. Sounds very like Adiemus. :D

"Aurora" has a few lyrics too, certainly Latin - something like "Aurora borealis, ..... occidentalis". "Harmonia Mundi" also does have a bit of Latin lyrics. Both pieces do definitely sound like Adiemus. :D I honestly have to say that I was expecting something like this... as soon as I read that Karl Jenkins was involved. :) But is he actually? He's not mentioned anywhere on Universal's 'official' presentation of the album...

P.S. "Musica Universalis", which I'm listening to right now, is a build-up in the style of "The Bell", featuring tubular bells (obviously) :p, followed by an heroic/epic finale. A fitting conclusion!

That's good to hear since that's what I was expecting/hoping for. :)

My dear god, she sounds like a flute!

Heres what ive gotten out of a few first listens!

On my heart,
The nights are drowning,
Here above,
The stars are smiling
In eternal light for warning
In a spree

Memories,
Of light and laughter
Hope and peace,
from far here after
what a perfect* weeps on features
From a tree

On my heart,
The nights are drawing,
Here above,
The stars are smiling
In eternal light for warning

In a spreee

*this bit is wrong, but i really have no idea what she says here

Anybody else any ideas?

Beautiful peice, Though westernra sounds like a flute!

@ Jonnyw: I think I said rather clearly, above, that this sounded like Italian opera. I hope I didn't give you the wrong impression about Italian opera! :D However, thanks a lot.

I think:
for warning = foreboding (I don't know whether this makes sense)
a spree = a spring [ditto as above! :)]

The 'weeps on features' bit is really what it sounds like - I really can't get nothing else out of it... anyone else can?

I don't mean that it's sung in Italian. I was referring to the style. :)

Oh righty, I see!

It sounds lovely though, And i think youre right about the spring bit at the beginning, i had that there first when typng it out, but at the end of the piece, it sounds more like spree.

God knows what they actually are. It will probably be "Yankee doodle dandy" or something like that.

Yes, it actually does, because she and the choir sing it as "spriiiiiiiiing". :D But I think you can actually hear a '-ng' at the very end of the vocals.

I also think that someone will come up with the right lyrics for the missing bit. "What a perfect" is certainly right, but I've no idea about what comes after it. :) An opera singer's main concern is showing off her/his vocal abilities, not enunciating the lyrics clearly.  :)

@ Hifiguru: I think it's not exactly what would you expect from Mike Oldfield after you've heard The Millennium Bell. But if you're familiar with his whole output, it's exactly what you would expect from a classical album by Mike Oldfield. :)

I'll do one as soon as I get some time. Maybe this weekend, or Monday - when I'm not busy with school. :)

Hifiguru!  Does the music flow like Mike's instrumental albums or is it split into individual tracks like Tres Lunas and Light and Shade?

Maybe it's a good thing that after the first listen you expected more, i find most of Mike's albums take more than one listen for me to appreciate it.

Cheers

The first few seconds of it reminds me of Tears of an Angel...

:D
suprising and something different, this is.
It is like TSODE, change alot.
The guitar style is familiar with Mont St Michel.

one word for this album:
harmonic :)

some of the style remains me of Danny Elfman.
My fav is Animus. It made me cry actually.
