If space and bandwidth is an issue, may I suggest using a more compact compression format, such as Ogg Vorbis? It produces files that sound better and are smaller than MP3, and it's completely free. See http://www.vorbis.com (Yes, that Carsten fellow that posts on the front page of that site is me, and No, I didn't develop Ogg Vorbis.
