You put Bonnie Tyler first.  I'm almost speechless.  Actually I've never even heard of half of the people on your list so I must plead ignorance.  I just hope none of 'em sing like Bonnie!

I'm only kidding ya, Richard, live and let live is my motto.

Here's my faves other than Mike:-

1 The Beatles
2 The Waterboys
3 The Who
4 Bob Dylan
5 Neil Young
6 Sinead O'Connor
7 Creedence Clearwater Revival
8 The Byrds
9 REM
10 Buffalo Springfield
11 Crosby Stills Nash (& Young)
12 The Beach Boys
13 Television
14 The Kinks
15 Big Star
16 Elvis Presley
17 Love
18 The Replacements
19 The Stranglers
20 The Velvet Underground

None from your list I'm afraid Richard.
Jules, I would pick the Kinks from your list
They used to play the Birmingham Odeon every January, or there abouts, and I always went to see them.
I actually saw them do a musical play called 'Soap Opera' back in about 1975. Half of the show was them playing their usual songs, and the second half was the play. A great evening.

Enough waffle.
My list, in no specific order, is as follows.

1 The Enid
2 Todd Rundgren
3 Carlos Santana
4 Camel
5 Pink Floyd
6 Cockney Rebel
7 Tangerine Dream
8 Soft Cell
9 Mott the Hoople
10 Alice Cooper
11 Crowded House
12 David Bowie
13 Jean Michelle Jarre
14 Japan
15 Isao Tomita
16 Edgar Froese
17 The Prodigy

Plus countless others, but they are the main ones.

Hello,

this is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while. (Still, haven't found a "introduce yourself" forum -- maybe I haven't been looking carefully enough.)

Anyway, the answer is:

1. Saint Etienne
2. The Smiths
3. Morrissey
4. New Order
5. Mylene Farmer
6. Michael Franti & Spearhead
7. Enya
8. Pet Shop Boys
9. Kylie
10. Depeche Mode
11. Philip Glass
12. Massive Attack
13. Björk
14. Suzanne Vega
15. Texas
16. Sparks
17. Joy Division
18. The Human League
19. LCD Soundsystem
20. Vanessa Daou

I'm sure I have forgotten about half of my favourites, and this certainly isn't the right order (since that changes more or less everyday...)

Try these, in alphabetical order:

The Beatles
David Bowie (just got into him recently)
Nick Cave
Harry Chapin
Cirque du Soleil (yes, for their music)
John Lennon
Moby
Pink Floyd
Steeleye Span
Stevie Ray Vaughan
The Who
Yes

Those are the main ones: there are many who have one good album or a few good songs that don't make it on this list.

Please don't apologise. I hated the Beatles, and wasn't at all keen on John Lennon. I kind of liked George Harrison though.

It's considered heresy by many, but Lennon was my least favorite Beatle as well.

I hated the Beatles, and was more than happy to see the back of John Lennon.

Have you been writing deliberately provokative things on the internet long or are you relatively new at it?

Other than Mike, I'm mad on Queen, and Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones( thanks Dad) ,  Pink Floyd, ELP , Edgar Broughton Band (vastly underrated)Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix(generally the older ones are the best)     :) .  In the 80's I was into U2, I went off them a bit in the 90's as they went more dancy, but thier recent albums are back on top form ( even though Bono compared Lennon and McCartney to Brown and Blair at the Labour party conference last year, at least Lennon (RIP) and McCartney were/are great men). Out of more modern bands I like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Stereophonics.  If I'm in a heavier mood I listen to Iron Maiden, Motorhead (Yes I was into Heavy Metal when I was 18/19 or so!!! How naff is that), Monster Magnet and Queens Of The Stone Age.   I listen to Bob Marley if I'm in a reggae mood . Oh I forgot Metallica sometimes.

 :)   .

Sorry jules. I hate to break this to you, but not everyone likes all the same things you do. If you find that provocative then that's your problem, because provocation wasn't my intention. I merely expressed an opinion. I never liked John Lennon, so what?

You said, and I quote, "I was glad to see the back of him".  This isn't the same as saying you never liked him.  It's a disgraceful statement IMO.  Admit it, you get a kick out of stirring the shit on this site.

You hate to do nothing of the kind.  And I'm not stirring.  I was offended by your words.  As others have been offended by your words here.  Ever consider the possibility that your social graces may need some attention?  Or could it never possibly be you who is to blame?

:(

Well, TanGram...

I guess my previous more subtle attempts at hinting that you're going in the wrong direction fell on deaf ears, or perhaps you can't help it. I find it difficult to believe, though, that you don't intend to provoke with some of your posts. This one here was relatively mild, but some have been so blatantly offhand that only someone severely unfamiliar with the English language could expect them not to make people annoyed. It's classic troll material (including the bit about trying to make out that it's not you who's to blame, but rather the people who are getting annoyed...that's an old one)...oldies but goodies, I suppose, as it still seems to have the required effect...

In a way, you could claim that it's my problem here. It's certainly my job to sort it out. I've tried one method, now this is another. I'm not going to need to try any others, am I?

Look, I'm sorry if he was offended by my post, but I promise you that wasn't my intention. The guy who posted after me wasn't bothered at all. The fact is that I detested John Lennon as a person, and found him lacking both as a musician and as a song writer, and that was what I tried to express. I will however agree that I could perhaps have put it another way. so, having said that, I will edit my post.
