I'm pretty sure I did this topic a while back, but I can't find it with the search feature, so here it is again.

I posted on another forum I hang out in ( www.rathergood.com )that my rock god was Mike, to get the reply from a Canadian "Who's Mike Oldfield?"

Luckily a friendly Liverpudlian replied "a kick ass musician"

So, I got to thinking, where else do you lot hang out? What other forums/interests do you have? Would we like to visit? And do you get to mention Mike whilst you're there?

I've got several other places where I 'hang out', and all of them are Yahoo discussion groups. Here they are:

- FallenforEvanescence*
- Nova Roma
- Hibernaculum* :D
- Sigur_Ros*
- ris_delitti_imperfetti (Italian TV series, CSI-style)*
- thefirstcut*

I've mentioned M.O. in the places marked with *. :)

In addition to this, I quite regularily contribute lyrics to a number of completely unrelated websites.

Also, I've frequently posted in various boards @ ezboard. But I've never mentioned M.O. there.

Would you like to visit? I don't think so, especially NR. :D

Wikipedia is my main place of online contributions. I haven't done many things related to MO, though  I started the Earth Moving article.

I used to post on the hipforums as Beyond-the-Clouds, but I got banned now, and yes I did talk about Mike Oldfield sometimes. Check out my posts, they're somewhat entertaining. I'm also at myspace as Steven Dutchnak.

I used to contribute to several Alanis Morissette forums but hardly ever do so now. Same goes for Dylan - these days most of my Dylan interest is satisfied by a couple of magazines - Isis and Judas! - writing as well as reading, and I'm not really tempted to trawl the internet much (though there was a time when I did).

So as far as forums are concerned, this place and musicVR.com are the most significant at the moment.

Does Mike spill out into other areas? Not really. I've spent the last couple of years organising an exhibition (it ran from October to December of last year) in which I was drawing material from a range of art forms, and wondered initially about including Mike in it in some form; but in the end Mike didn't really fit, though Dylan did.  There's a web page still up about the exhibition, with some images, HERE.

Ah, Wikipedia - I forgot. :) It's one of the many places I mentioned above, where I wrote anything - it's not the main one, no one is. :)   I mostly contributed there as translator into Italian, and, in the Italian-language version, I made some additions and editing to the Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre sections.

I visit the AnglersNet.co.uk forums every day now, it is a fishing site and I do not fish, but they have an excellent 'Photography' section and hold bi-weekly photo competitions. The winner gets to choose the theme for the next comp and judge it. I won the last comp with a 'Communication' theme with a photo of two snails getting to know each other, and I get to pick the theme and judge the next comp, which starts tomorrow, 'Mans Best Friend at Work or Play'. My partner Michael (HellBelly) won the previous comp which was 'Trees' and chose the current comp 'Transport' which ends at midnight. I am still called TubularBelle in there, so check it out, and if you are a keen photographer join up, it's very new, we are only up to comp #6 so need more people to get involved. They just announced today that we have a sponsor who will send winners free mouse pads and coasters with their photos on them. Have yet to find out if I miss out or not. :/

In the Non-Fishing Chat section I started a thread called 'Your Favourite Artist, Singer or Band' just so I can talk about Mike and with over 8,000 members I have made just 2 new MO friends. The 'Non-Fishing Chat' is excellent, you can post about anything!!!

Ah...the wikipedia! In that several of you are contributing to it, and there are also students and teachers among us, the librarian within can't help share an article from Nature about it (if you've not seen it). I think it's wonderful that some of you are contributors. Keep up the great work!!

I'm fairly active over on the Chemical Brothers forum on their official site. Can I just say the Chemical Brothers really really know how to look after their fans. Not only do they host and actively promote an FTP site where fans can trade live bootlegs, rare tracks and indeed their own music, not only do they regularly post themselves in their forum, being on hand to answer any questions fans have and being hugely encouraging to fans making their own music, not only all that but they had a private after show party for all the forum members who made it to their big London gig on new years eve where everyone met each other and got to meet Tom and Ed Chemical

That is how you look after your fans. Its the little things that make fans think the artist cares.

Enya's (I post rarely but read regularly); New Order's (ditto) and Pet Shop Boys' (slightly more posts and slightly less interest in the actual music). I also read morrissey-solo but never post. Duh. :P I realise the question wasn't "which forums do you not post at?" I mentioned Oldfield on the first three.

Woo..tranceaddict has over 50,000 users! Makes this place feel quite small and cosy. Rathergood has only been runningh since November last year, but has users with 4000+ posts.

It all makes me realise what a sensible place tub.net is. Now, is that down to us as fans, or our Admins?

Google Community http://googlecommunity.com
Enigma Message Board http://enigmamusic.com/forum

I also browse Kraftwerk's Metropolis Community Board and the Jarre.net forums once in a while. :P

[Edit]: Just remembered that I also posted about Mike in those first two forums, and I'm also pretty active on Wikipedia. Saw some folks from here at Wikipedia too!  :p

I'm not a regular in too many places. I'm an old member (though nowhere as active nowadays) of http://www.simpworks.com. It's the first community I've ever been a part of, since 1999 or so. I also visit Music Babble, which is an all-purpose forum of music and reviewing and other stuff. Most recently, I'm a member of Backyardigan Fans, for discussion of everything related to the Backyardigans and more.
