Quote (David Mar @ Oct. 14 2004, 11:19) | Anyone else think Mike should play a solo section (at a live show) and play one or various instruments into a sampler live and keep on playing over the loop/s live K T? |
Yes, that would be fantastic. I watched a busker in Berlin play dance-style music like that, using a guitar, a melodica, a harmonica and his voice (he did quite a bit of mouth percussion as well as singing) - really fantastic stuff. Another one who left an impression (albeit a rather oddly shaped impression) on me was Andrew Bailey, who uses the most bizarre things in the creation of his loops (including a giant veterinary rubber glove, which he pulls over his head, inflates, then hits with the microphone) - he's very funny to watch, especially with the manic-looking faces he tends to pull. I'm not sure that Mike could so easily get away with wearing a rubber glove on his head, though...or Mr Bailey's secret weapon, a plastic skull impaled on a corkscrew, for that matter.
It's definitely a fun thing to do - I've played about with those kinds of techniques myself in the past, and had a good laugh doing it. With Mike's growing interest in loop-based material, a live sampling/looping act would seem to be a good way to add a bit of excitement to his shows...that's assuming chooses to do any...
