Ah...ok....sounds like you're all set! I have several psychologist friends (even get on pretty well with my ex, who teaches research in psych at the college level), and clearing the institutional/ethics review board is very important. One of the first profs teaching a course in ethnography in Second Life had a difficult time getting approval for his class to be in there, conducting field work in the various SL communities. Luckily, permission was granted ("lucky" cos the class was imminently scheduled to begin! ). That was in January 2007, and since then, there are numerous psychologists and anthropologists conducting research there, both individually and collaboratively. It is research at a distance, and if you (or anyone else) needs strategies for approaching your institutional/ethics review boards/panels for anything involving distance research (not just SL) , help is available--just PM me. I've participated in a couple of studies within SL and it seems to me that both times I had to sign (or click) a release--something no doubt connected with the IRB or ethics policy.
But anyway.....your research, especially with the Mike angle, sounds fascinating! Best of luck with it!
