Hi folks,

I need at least 2 participants to interview about their admiration for Mike, as part of a Social Psychology project I am conducting for my Open University Psychology degree.  This would involve in-person, face-to-face interviews.  Ideally (but not necessarily), I need male and female interviewees, to factor in gender-bias etc.  Are you interested?  If so, email me at: smillsoid@googlemail.com

Smillsoid.

I'm based in Wolverhampton, West Midlands - but I'm prepared to travel, because I'm only interviewing a few people.  If you're interested EMAIL ME: smillsoid@googlemail.com - stating your age, gender and location.  If you're short-listed, I'll contact you directly.

Thanks guys!  MO fans rule!

If you're coming to the UK in June, then you're ideal!

What would be interesting is to include someone from an area like Texas. A MO fan who worshiped this music growing up, but enjoyed it mostly alone. I can count on one hand the number of people I've met who actually "owned" a MO album in this area. Someone who can appreciate the music having been "isolated" from any large fan base. I would be willing. scatterplot1@yahoo.com

Seems like you could use several folks, indeed. If I were going to be in the UK for sure, I'd volunteer, but now that's up in the air because of math tutoring. What about using skype and a webcam for some of us in distant locations?

I'm afraid that approach wouldn't get past the BPS Ethics Panel.  Must be face-to-face interviews - sorry.  I'm going to have to travel all over the country to meet those already recruited.  My fiancee intends to go into film-making, and plans to make a psychology documentary in the near future - so who knows...

Ah...ok....sounds like you're all set!  I have several psychologist friends (even get on pretty well with my ex, who teaches research in psych at the college level), and clearing the institutional/ethics review board is very important. One of the first profs teaching a course in ethnography in Second Life had a difficult time getting approval for his class to be in there, conducting field work in the various SL communities. Luckily, permission was granted ("lucky" cos the class was imminently scheduled to begin! ).  That was in January 2007, and since then, there are numerous psychologists and anthropologists conducting research there, both individually and collaboratively. It is research at a distance, and if you (or anyone else) needs strategies for approaching your institutional/ethics review boards/panels for anything involving distance research (not just SL) , help is available--just PM me.  I've participated in a couple of studies within SL and it seems to me that both times I had to sign (or click) a release--something no doubt connected with the IRB or ethics policy.

But anyway.....your research, especially with the Mike angle, sounds fascinating!  Best of luck with it!

Without wishing to stir up any music fan rivalry or anything...but I've had way more Kate Bush fans responding to my request than Mike Oldfield fans.  Come on guys - we need to get roughly equal numbers in the name of balanced research.    :D

I looked up Kate Bush simply because of the buzz on here, and the nice Peter G. song from So. Not much interested in her. Oh well.

Funny, I was just thinking, do Oldfield fans share similar engrams?

For selected memories, yes, I think we might.
