HI,

Somome weeks ago I was looking at my old audio tape collection  and I found one which contained the Pat Metheny Group's track "Are You Going With Me? ",from his album "Offramp" (1983)that I recorded many years ago.
I love very much this track but I haven't listenned to other tracks from this musician.
I would like to know if there's a Pat Metheny fan between us who could tell me what tracks should I have to listen to  know something more about him.
I specially love the guitar sound that he uses in
"Are You Going With Me ?"

                         Thanks for your advice :)

Try his biggest-hitting albums, 'Letter from home' and 'Still life (talking).' You might find something you like. :)

Just for the record. In a 1993 (I think) article and interview with Mike he said he was once given a Pat Metheny CD and he thought it was 'really, really boring'.
I've never heard him, is he any good or is Mike right?

I once had a Pat Metheny CD, a soundtrack called 'Passaggio per il Paradiso' or something, it was nice but it was indeed boring in that it really just consisted of two themes that were repeated over and over. I liked it in the beginning but soon grew fed up with it.

Well,as I said before , I really don't know anything about Pat Metheny but the track "Are You Going With Me?", wich isn't boring at all!
I think you should try to listen to it.There's two versions, original and live and IMO they are both very enjoyable and interesting (there are some differences between them, guitar's sound tempo, wind instruments...).I can't compare them with Mike's music because they are labelled "jazz music" ( don't like labels...  :/ )but the atmosphere is different...the way guitar is played is different...
All that I can say is that I like very much the way Pat Metheny plays guitar in this track, the other instumets are IMO also well played and the whole thing gives me good feelings. But this is not a "like Mike's" track, it's a different style...
Try it and we'll talk about it... ;)

Just something that fits with Mike's music: as many others, it also requires a second and a third listenning, and you have to be in a "special mood" for "getting into " it.

May I suggest the song Last Train Home which I like very much. I really can imagine myself as I were traveling on a train when I hear it and I love that way of playing the guitar. ;)

@ Spinne: Yes, I had forgotten that one,but I recognized it at the very first seconds.

@ Ugo:"Letter from home": nice track, but no guitar inside.
                  "Still life": couldn't get it...

 Thanks for your advice.
More suggestions?

'Still life (talking)' is an album. Best tracks from there are 'Minuano' and 'Last train home'.

Oh my... I expected Mr. Metheny to be given a little better treatment here :-(

Actually, for me, some of his stuff is rather hit-and-miss, but one of his most exciting albums was actually what got me hooked... try looking around for "Pat Metheny Group: Imaginary Day"

Thank you, Ktran. I'll try it.
But it would be very helpful if you could tell me some track tittle.   (when looking for mp3 with my software,it's sometimes easier looking for a track than looking for an album)
                         TNX again! ;)
I'd also like to know if the track I love so much (" Are You Going With Me ?") does represent his musical style.

I'm not familiar with that particular track, so I can't comment. That, and I only own a couple of PM albums myself...

but... from imaginary day, try listening to "Follow Me" (my personal fave) "imaginary Day" and "roots of coincidence"
