I discovered Peter Gabriel's music when I was 15, through seeing his amazing video for "Steam" on TV. The first real thing that grabbed me was his use of images - from the album covers to song videos - I found this to be enormously inspiring from an artistic point of view.

I adore Gabriel's voice and style. His diverse mix of musical styles and world music influence never lose appeal and quite simply, he makes music like nobody else. Gabriel's live shows are always breath-taking, proving that he is one of the greatest rock performers our time.

I have a website dedicated to Peter's music at:

I hope you like it... though it needs updating! However since my copy of his new DVD has just arrived, I'll be adding a review soon!

Alex

Yes that's me! I recognise you too.

I'm new here though, but thought I'd get a Peter post done all the same!

I guess my first memory of Peter Gabriel goes back to Solsbury Hill. What a voice? what resonance. I saw him in concert around 10 years ago I think it was in Adelaide. I have 4 of his albums, 'Shaking the Tree' (1990), I love all his songs on this but my faves would be Solsbury Hill, Sledgehammer, Don't give up, Games without Frontiers and Shock the Monkey, 'US' (1992), I esp love Blood of Eden, Steam, Digging in the Dirt and Kiss that Frog, 'OVO' (2000) and 'UP' (2002). That is not to say I prefer his later world music style, just that was what was around when I discovered him and then the last 2 albums simply because of my financial status at the time. Has he done anything since UP? I also have the 'US' video where he claims that the most important thing he has learnt in all his years in the entertainment industry is that it is all about the hairstyle! I'm considering buying the new dvd. He also has great taste in the female voices he chooses to work with, Kate Bush and Sinead O'connor are my favourite female singers.

Tracy.

I have a yin/yang thing with Peter Gabriel.
I've got a copy of Shaking the Tree which I rarely listen to; there's some good tracks on it but other one's really don't interest me.

However his Passions sound track for The Last Temptation of Christ is brilliant. For that album, and for his work in the Womadelaide festival here in South Australia I take my hat off to him. The 'Sources' disc that came with the soundtrack is also very good. Reminds me of Promenade Nirvanesce and Ethnic Lounge.

I live in South Australia too, in Belair, where are you? we should meet up!!! Did you go to the concert in 96 I think it was. WOMAD starts in two days, are you going? I think thats when I first really got into Peter Gabriel, when he started WOMAD, thats about 10 years ago I think. I've never been to one, going away this weekend. Did you see Mike in 82, or was it 84, I missed that one unfortunately.
