I made a little tribute to Platinum. All the instruments are recorded from a Roland MT-200 digital sequencer and the Wingroove MIDI software synthesiser (and performed by me of course). I also play a Yamaha ERG-121 guitar (about 9 different times) using the Guitar FX Box program for the effects.

I don't think I got the chords perfect on the 'bridge' part but it still works :). Also the guitar sounds just a bit drowned out near the end.

I have 2 versions available to download. One MP3 and one OGG. I recommend the OGG if you have the means to play them (the latest Winamp will play them) seeing as the quality is a bit better. The MP3 is in the zipped file.

I managed to put this all together aroud a couple weeks. I've just finished now. Sometimes I think I did too much (sounds like Mike :D). Tell me what you think of it anyway!

EDIT: New links to replace broken ones.

Hi Brandon,

Wow! I just downloaded your Platinum Part Two and really enjoyed it! Great head-banging music! I particularly like your guitar work and some of the add-ons (in the heavier parts).

As you said, a bit too much over dubbing , some of which didn't fit very well (especially the Triangle tinkling sounds in the early parts). But over all a great ride...and a wild one too!

Thanks,

Tim :D

Thank you, Timshen! Glad you liked it! I actually hate it because it sounds so terrible to my ears now lol. It could have been way better...maybe I'll do another mix of it sometime.

I like it, especially those little bell-like tunes.

It was actually a glockenspiel :). And I might add that the tune that the glokenspiel plays was in the original but it was his famous cool incantations-recorder-sound-sped-up instrument instead of a glokenspiel.

That was very good indeed!,have you ever thought of getting a Mike Oldfield tribute band together????.Do you record it from reading music or do you, like me,pick it all up by ear?

Could you tell me what guitar you use for those lead sounds as it sounds uncannyly like Mike.Is it a gibson??

I indeed learned it all by ear and playing on the guitar. Including the solo. No tabs (I use tabs for some Oldfield songs but others I don't). Like I said, I don't think I got the chords quite right in some parts of the 'bridge' part.

As for a MO tribute band, I doubt that'll happen. Firstly I'm not really interested in that. I'd rather make my own stuff or make original stuff with somebody else :). Althought it WOULD be quite fun to jam MO songs with a band! If only more people were interested....

As for my equipment. I do not own a Gibson. I have a Yamaha ERG-121. I have a Zoom 505II pedal for effects but that's not what I used on this tribute tune. I used Guitar FX Box for the computer. Plugged my guitar straight into my Mic Input on my soundcard and this program did all the effects digitally on the computer. I fooled around with the distortion and equilizer options until I found a setting that sounded most like Mike's guitar from Platinum (Gibson, wasn't it?).

Good stuff - it has a really powerful sound, and the playing's nice and fluid.

Not sure about the chords, but a couple notes seem different...doesn't matter, it sounds good anyway.

I'm not sure I'd want to be in a Mike Oldfield tribute band either, but playing his music with a live band can be great fun...

The server where my Platinum tune was on is now dead, I need to find a new home for it. It won't seem to let me upload it to my Geocities site right now but I don't really want to do that anyway. If someone has some reccomondations or even some server space for it, I'd be greatful! :)

Hi Brandon,

I cant get your links to work, I guess your version of Platinum Part 2 will be on your site (which is currently under construction) sometime in the future .
I know that you said you didnt have the TAB for part 2, but I dont suppose you have ever come across it anywhere?

Again I am sorry for the mix-up about the links. Most of my older stuff are all broken links.

And no I haven't come across it anywhere, sorry. Maybe I'll whip up a tab for you if I have time this week. Maybe.

Excuse our ignorance, but what exactly IS a tab? Is it like those missing chads in Florida or something? And what is midi? While we're at it, how exactly do you use the BUS feature on MAGIX for real time effects, as we have the same program, Brandon. Or, at least we use MAGIX to record audio, midi seems to be something totally beyond us.

As for the track, the links don't seem to work and we don't have any software on our computer to play ogg files. Consequently, we haven't gotten to hear a great deal of tracks on here! which is a bummer (none by Booster)! Is there anywhere to download an ogg player? would like to hear your track, as well as all the others who post ogg files here. Thanks much.  :)

Tony and Julie

an oldie but a goodie, only just got round to downloading, and it's great.

Maybe a bit harsh on the mix, but excellent playing.

Yeah the quality is pretty bad now that I look back at it. The fact is I didn't really mix it. Just pasted all the guitar parts into it with Goldwave. They're not even panned left or right. Just a big muddy mess lol.

Thanks for the words anyway, though :).
