Obviously thinking of MOTS here but also generally curious. When a promotional CD of an album is released early such as the MOTS tin boxs doing the rounds on ebay, is it usually the same audio content as the final released CD?

In the case of MOTS, do people expect that when finally released the audio content will have altered in any way?

little bump to this question since nobody responded at the time.

My guess with MOTS is that the final version will be identical to the promo.

My ideal would be if the final version had some of Mikes guitar work rerecorded. Someone else in another thread called it "lazy" which I think is a bit extreme but in some places the perfectionist Mike we know and love doesn't seem to be shining through. Part of me also thinks that chopping 5 mins 48 seconds out of it by going straight from Shabda to the Harbinger reprise would be an improvement but I accept that is just my personal view and would not be Mikes vision for the work!

I don't know, but let's not tempt fate by suggesting it should be shortened - originally we were going to get three parts - with your suggestion we'd barely have two.  :/

This is where I really want to comment but I know I shouldn't to honour the rules :P  :D

Everyone's interpretation is different, and everyone has a right to that opinion. There is no "right" one, I am adding this post to communicate my thoughts to share them with like-minded souls who will be able to comment in good nature.

I hadn't noticed subpar playing, but I don't have a trained ear for these things. To me, the guitar sounds just lovely. I am particulalrly enamored with the guitar part in "Harmonia Mundi" - the last minute-and-a-half being the guitar-highlight of the album, for me. Of course, it helps that the divine melodies from "Shabda" and the second half of "Silhouette" are integrated into "Harmonia Mundi". I'm also fond of the playing in "Silhouette", but I can't say for sure if the part at the end is a guitar or a harp??

Though it wasn't initially one of my favorite parts, I've grown to love "The Tempest". Admittedly, if I were to analogize this piece of music to a conversation, it would be a heated debate rather than an all-out bar-brawl, but then MOTS' overall characteristic quality is one of tasteful restraint (that's disregarding the blast of brass which opens "Empyrean", it startled me on first listen but it's now one of my favorite sections - especially when the strings and percussion come in - there's an almost medieval sound to the piece).

Oops. To be more on-topic, I'd be very happy if this were the final version, though I might be even happier if more music were added - just not removed!
