Is it me being very unobservant or is there a lack of publicity around the new album? There is only one more week to wait I think, so why is there no mention on the radio or in the press? Am I looking in the wrong places?!! Do you think there will be more about it next week when it has been released? Or is it going to just appear on the shelves, quietly?

Perhaps because it is all we have talked about here on the tubular net for the last few weeks I am losing my sense of balance!!! I was hoping for an interview or something like that...just hoping!!

I was wondering if it would be shown in 'the culture' (part of the Sunday times) as they often feature obscure artist's new releases!  :D

There is a great tradition with MO releases to promote them after release rather than before, I'm sure there is some twisted logic behind this thinking that escapes me. With all of Mike's recent releases I've always thought THIS time Mike will get big deserved features in the likes of the 'serious' UK music mags ie Mojo, Record Collector and Word and then it never materialises. Whether or not this has anything to do with the quality of Mike's recent releases or just because no matter what Mike is now utterly abandoned by the media his home country is an interesting question.

It is weird, because with Mike being with Mercury now, you would have though they would be making a big deal about it, Mark Knopfler who is on the same label, always get's lot's of promotion, so, why not Mike?.Maybe someone should contact Mercury?.

Sorry to the administrators, I think this thread that I started, could have gone with the one on promotion in the uk. I did not read it properly, my mistake. Publicity and promotion are the same thing I guess.

I did have a quick look on Mercury's website and as far as I could see there was no mention of Mike Oldfield as even being with them. Surely they should be saying more, about the new album if mothing else?? Or is it as Toby said, that it will all happen after the date?

What does sadden me, is that Mike is not as popular in his home country as he is in Europe. (What does that say about the intelligence levels of the populations??!!;) I'm sure, with the release of Light and Shade, that the UK will wake and realise what they have been missing. Or a whole new generation of fans will be born. :)

I think that would depend on whether the album either goes down the path of TOAA or the path of Romance.
Traditionally there is a big difference between the music made by Britain and the rest of Europe and the type of music that is popular. I mean its only in very recent years that there's been any European artists in the UK charts at all (I'm talking album charts), and even now there still isn't that many really.

I've no idea why Mercury seem not to be promoting this album other than either most of it is indeed like Romance or they've got some valid reason why they think its best to hang off on the promotion until after its released. I suppose they may think that no matter how good the album is there just aren't going to be queues out side the doors of the record shops on the morning of release. I suppose its more realistic of where Mike is in his career right now to slowly build up public awareness of the album once its out, that is of course if it doesn't get slating reviews.

There will be no publicity around the new album in Finland.
Im sure that everything will happen just like before and L&S will just suddenly appear in recordstores.

Ofcourse this is only in distant Finland?
