I agree that QE2 is one of Oldfield's understated albums. I purchased the LP when it was released and immediately started playing it, hoping for another TB or HR sensation. Of course that didn't happen, lol, but I did eventually start enjoying many of the tracks - and then - QE2 goes into the stack of LPs I listen to only occasionally.
Same feelings when I purchased the CD release though I did enjoy not hearing the vinyl artifacts. I've always thought QE2 sounds compressed and lacks dynamics, if not a bit congested in several places. I still get that impression today regardless of the volume I play it at.
On a very positive note, I LOVE the track QE2!!!! From it's humble beginning to the vibrant and joyful climax, I think this is one of Oldfield's finest moments, musically. I feel his energy, confidence, joy and elation in this track, and as someone else pointed out on this thread - the track has brought a few tears through the years, and still does.
I'm going out on a limb here but as far as an Ultimate QE2 Edition - BRING ON THE REMIXES! I'd love to hear Mike rework every track (as bonuses, of course, in addition to the originals,) giving them the "2009" treatment he did with TB...
I'd also like the actual CDs to have the original LP record label art printed on them...
Where can I place my order?
