hi I'm new..and really stupid.
That aside...My parents had the single and it broke a long time ago...  :(
I was wondering.... is there a way to get the single (45) Version.

All I remember is a voice saying what type of bell it was..and like the guitar part....this is bugging me cause I want to hear it again..and I don't know which one it is...
thanks..
and you can email me at Shinyadoll@yahoo.com if you could please.. I'm not one to stay on message boards forever..

The only "Tubular Bells" single I know began with the Exorcist theme, and ended with a litte bit of the "Basses" part, and did not include the Stanshall "voice"....

Are you referring to the first Tubular Bells, or to Tubular Bells 2?

Whereas the only TB single I know of has an alternate mix/take of the 'bagpipes' guitar section from Part Two.

Looks like we are dealing with at least 3 different singles from the first Tubular Bells. The discographies I looked at mentioned none of them.

The three TB singles I'm aware of are as follows:

1 - "Theme from TB" - featuring the variation on the 'bagpipes' theme mentioned by Jules.
2 - "Tubular Bells (Single Edit)" - the one mentioned by Hiawatha. This one is 4'15'' long and it was released in Italy in 1975, when The Exorcist was also originally released. (I have no idea whether it was released elsewhere or not.) The sleeve features the familiar pic of Max von Sydow standing in the light streaming out of Regan's house. On top it says: «Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (Tema dal film L'esorcista)». I have this 45 rpm, but unfortunately I can't show you its sleeve because I haven't found it anywhere on the Web, and my scanner's broken. :)
3 - "The Bell" - this is the one with 'the voice' announcing the instruments, and it features the ending theme from the first half of TB II. There are various versions around with various voices; one is by Alan Rickman (the MC on the album), another is by Viv Stanshall, and there's also a German version around by I-don't-remember-who. :)

Whether or not this is the same as the one I am thinking of, I am not sure. The one I am thinking of is the one that as popular in the US in the wake of "The Exorcist". I have one somewhere, but am not sure where it is, and do not know what is on back side of it.

There are some more original TB singles.

I quote from Xanthos discography as I couldn't put it down better:

"The following outtakes, mixes, releases are existing:

3:18     Using diff. excerpts from Part 1 min. 0:00 till ca. min.
         4:15 and between 6:44 to 7:22, followed by a ca. 19 sec.
repeat from the first sec. of Tubular Bells.

3:24     Almost exact the 3:18 vers., but one excerpt plays 6 sec.
longer and the 19 sec. outro at the end is played without
         Bass!

4:00     Totally different and unique excerpts mix: Using the
         excerpts from Part 1 min. 5:18 - 5:40 and 11:25 - 15:22 and
         22:56 to 24:10 approximately.

4:35     Is the 4:39 version, but begins directly at minute 19:41.

4:36     Mike Oldfield's Single version: Really the most interesting
version. They took min. 8:48 to 11:20 from Tubular Bells
Part II: Ca. 1 min. intro with oboe and acoustic guitar
only, (this part isn't played on the album in this
instrumentation), then runs till min. 3:16 as the part/theme
like on album but without kettledrum and percussion,
followed by an acoustic guitar outro + some organ chords and
fading of tune. Think a release with much more feeling, also
         slower tempo used.

4:39     Using excerpts from Part 1 min. 17:02 suddenly jumping to
min. 19:41 of album running till 23:50 with fading out the
         theme."

So if it's TB and not TBII then it could be the 4:35 or the 4:39 long version because in the 4:00 one the cut jumps to the bells instantly.

Eeton is right, it should be the 4:35 or 4:39 edits that include the MC excerpt (with a slightly edition). In general there was 3 different singles from TB, the first one includes 2 edits from TB (the intro and the MC on the B-side), the second one includes a mix of different excerpts from TB and the song Froggy Went A-Courting and the last one is the Mike Oldfield's Single which includes that one plus Froggy again.

The edit we are talking about should be the one included on the B-side of the, let's call it, TB/TB single. The mix on the second one only includes the part of the TB but not MC.

Xanthos discography is a very interesting document but unfortunately is offline :(
