Is Mike likely to do an interview on BBc radio 2, like he usuallly does? I'm thinking of interviews with Simon Mayo last year for TB2003 and Johnny Walker previous to that. Also Steve Wright one year? I wonder why he chose BBc Radio London this time?

For what it's worth, I think he should get a mention on BBC radio 4's Front Row programme, as the Maestro project is a kind of innovative idea, who knows where it might lead. And the audience is hugely varied and maybe of a generation that may remember the release of his first album. But I know he wanted to get away from that connexion a bit.

Oh well, just a thought!

You may find these radio sessions arn't so much a matter of who Mike chooses, and more who chooses Mike. My guess is Mike's PR sends out a blanket letter to all who may be interested with the new details of his latest project and then waits to see who responds.  Radio stations such as Radio 2 may well have their schedules full by the time Mike's PR gets in contact or may simply feel they've got more important guests to interview.

On a similar-ish note. I do despair sometimes at the UK music press's unneccessary and never ending slamming of Mike, especialy from those who should know better. There's a new-ish and rather good music and pop culture magazine called The Word here in the UK. It's amained at the more mature and intelligent reader, someone who takes their music seriously and isn't interested in gloss or hype. Anyway in this months issue they have an A-Z of music jargon and under the term New Age they have the definition - 'music sans tunes - newage rymes with sewage = Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells'.

And to think I was beggining to like the magazine as well.

I guess most people (i.e. not us here!) think that way about TB. This must be more commonplace now that epic prog works are no longer in fashion

Their opinion kind of echoes the record labels' shallow view of Mike's demo. Without Branson, TB wouldn't have seen the light of day so at least we can thank him for that
