It now looks like Mike is going through the whole catalogue with the Discovery & Killing Fields announcements.

Did he get the rights back to Albums en Block ? or are they coming back to him gradually ?

If it is a gradual thing, as there was a 3 year gap after these 2 to Islands, following these re-releases, he would be free to work on the speculated new long form music......

I was under the impression all the rights from Tubular Bells to Heaven's Open reverted back to him in 2008, all at once. I could be wrong, but looking at the original release vs re-issue dates, the gaps between the original albums don't seem to effect the re-issues. He's put one or two re-issues out a year since 2009.

TB (1973) vs TB (2009) - 36 years
HR (1974) vs HR (2010) - 36 years
O (1975) vs O (2010) - 35 years
I (1978) vs I (2011) - 33 years
P (1979) vs (2012) - 33 years
QE2 (1980) vs QE2 (2012) - 32 years
FMO (1982) vs FMO (2013) - 31 years
C (1983) vs C (2013) - 30 years

Yes, that's exactly what happened - the gaps between them have been down to the time needed to gather all the material together (and for Mike to approve and, where the right material was available, work on it). Not to say that there might not be a marketing reason as well, of course!

Still, there should hopefully be a fair bit of time for Mike to work on new music while all that's going on. To an extent, I'm sure the reissue schedule is bending to fit Mike's schedule, though of course every year without a reissue of a particular album is a year where no new copies are being sold...

Korgie, does Mike do the actual remastering himself?

From my research, Mike seems very hands on with these releases, working on some elements (mixes and remastering) himself and directly supervising the engineers, overseeing their work on other parts.

And yeah, he's working on them one at a time as the tapes are unearthed from various studio vaults. Sadly, some are either missing or damaged (Incantations), so new stereo and 5.1 remixes weren't possible. I'm perfectly happy to get a Re-Issue or two a year. It's been a nice thing to look forward to each year since 2009.

Overall, I think the Re-Issues are fantastic. If I have one niggle, it's that some rare tracks get left off ("All Right Now," "Sally," "Froggy Went A'Courting," "Rite Of Man," etc.). Oh well.

No, the mastering's done by Paschal Byrne at The Audio Archiving Company. Mike does get sent everything for approval, and of course does work on the album remixes (though where live material has had to be newly mixed, that's been done by someone else) and gets the final say on what content is included.

Ok, thanks for the info Korgie. Do we know yet if we get Discovery and The Killing Fields at the same time like Crises/Five Miles Out?
