On the basis there may be prolific guitar players who are also prolific computer users reading this.  Has anyone any experience of RSI from playing guitar?  What was it like and what did you do about it.

Ray

I wonder if Mr Oldfield has ever had anything like that?  Playing diddley, diddley , diddley very quickly all the time  Not that he would tell anyone I would think.

Had Tendosynovitis (probably not spelt remotely like that)
which is a less severe version of RSI.Bloody painfull and i wasn't allowed to play for a couple of weeks.Thankfully only had on instance so far (touch wood).
And Deb i know exactly what you mean about breaking finger nails. The band i'm in is all acoustic and about 75% finger picking. It's the most annoying thing on the planet to be playing live and a finger nail gives way. :(

I remember that during the 80's Mike used to wear a wristband on his right wrist, dunno if it was related to some sort of problems related to RSI.

To help not to force his right wrist while working on the computer,Mike has put this wrist support, you can see it on this 2004 pic:

Tati, everyone with enough dough gets one of those.

To be serious for a second: it's propably his left hand that is under most stress when playing.

True harmono, we use the left hand to shred the frets, and my fingers bleed when playing fast chords on the acoustic, deb

Apparently Mark Knopfler suffered from it--pretty interesting (and maybe even helpful! ) couple of articles, located here.

Hey i can spell!!!!It hasn't given me any hassle for a few years but i do take notice when it twinges and stop playing for a wee while.Better to be cautious i find.
All i play in the band is acoustic guitar. We made a decision when we started that we wanted to play quite(ish)stuff and since we like folk we decided to stay acoustic.Got a bit sick of playing in bands with loud drummers. We write our own songs which has forced me to brush up on my finger picking technique.Caused me some serious problems this saturday in the studio.Took lord knows how many passes at one of the songs and had severe Tourettes for a while swearing at myself for not being able to nail the part.Got there in the end though, thankfully.

Thanks Deb.As soon as we release it i will of course let you guys know.I've forced the other guys to listen to plenty of Oldfield.Jodie likes some of it but Steve has really got into him.Primarily his earlier stuff.I played him Incantations and he just closed his eyes and went off into his own little world with it.

Negative. I was hoping you would think of anti-inflammatory meds such as ibuprofin in large doses. Don't exceed 2400mg per day. I have reffered to pot and alcohol on this site, but I'm not the party animal you might think, I'm quite an old man and relaxed on these matters. I have had injuries/irritations of this nature, including a spinal disk bulge(lumbar L5-S1) and found ibuprofin to be the drug of choice in these situations.
