Please can someone help, as I'm puzzled! I saw a programme called 'So What Do You Do All Day' about Richard, and at one point, he was inspecting the Oxford St. Virgin Megastore, and he didn't like the shop displays as he thought they were tacky - like Woolworths. What I'm puzzled about is that he sold off Virgin Records, so why does he still have something to do with the Mega stores?!

I may be talking bollocks here but I'm fairly certain he still owns or at least part owns the Virgin megastore chain. Virgin in general works a bit like a franchise where different people run different parts of it with sometimes very little imput from Richard Branson, he just under writes cheques for it all and of course takes the largest share of the profit. Parts of Virgin, such as the record company, sometimes get sold off to fund other parts that need cash injections or to invest in whole new franchises like Virgin Airways.

Yeah I think he has no hand in Virgin Records anymore, the people that publish and release albums, but he does still have a share in Virgin Megastore, the shops that stock the records. As Toby said, Virgin is like a huge co-operative really, it has so many distinct sections - trains, insurance, cola - that they really don't share much but the brand name, which of course is a very famous one.

Thanks for the replies! I hope that you got to see the show too as it was very interesting! Richard gets people saying 'Hello'  and he says 'Hello' back, every day - and asked for autographs too - and sometimes women kiss him too!! I was lucky to have seen the Horse Guard's Parade concert Mike did, and when I saw Richard was just as wet as the rest of us it cheered me up! It's funny to hear (afterwards) that Mike too was amused to see a soaking wet Branson!
