I would be interested to see a graph showing the ups and downs in Mike's career (in terms of record sales) I want to see if there is any link between the reputation of the album and its sales, or to prove that the more mainstream albums are bound to sell more (not that Tubular Bells I was supposed to be mainstream)  :)

Try http://www.ommadawn.dk/mou/charts.html for the older albums.

I'm guessing the numbers represent the position of each album in the charts.  Note that they run from 1 to 100 and the rest are just hyphens.

Each box is one week.  For example, Hergest Ridge went straight to No 1 and stayed there for three weeks.  Then it slipped to No 2, No 3, No 6, No 9 and so on.

So does that mean that HR got to number one before TB did in 1974 for 3 weeks, weeks 35, 36, and 37, only to be knocked off by TB for 1 week in week 38?

I always thought that TB was number 1 in the charts for a full year before being knocked off by HR which went straight to number 1.

I have no idea.  It would help if there was more of an explanation on that web site...

yes it didn't make sense to me either, its sounds more logical for HR to knock TB of No.1 spot but in the Hergest Ridge leaflet it says it was knocked of No.1 spot after 3 weeks by TB, weird  :/

Yes, exactly.

I can't believe that TB got to number one for ONE WEEK ONLY a whole year AFTER it was released and this has happened not even by it's own merits but because of a sales surge due to the release and popularity of HR. That is very wierd, I have been telling everyone I know for 30 years that TB was number one in the charts for a whole year, only to be knocked off by HR. TB was in the charts for at least 7 years but it's just not the same thing is it!! I had it SO wrong!!! I am going to kill myself now, excuse me.

I'm curious to know what album(s) kept Tubular Bells off the UK no.1 spot for  10  concecutive weeks in 1974.  I know Hergest Ridge kept TB of no.1 for three of those weeks.  I would maybe have a guess at  Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon :) , but according to one chart DSOTM made it to no.2 :/ .

If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.

Which ten weeks? TB was off the number one spot for 57 consecutive weeks (bar one) in 73/74, not just 10.

Sorry TubularBelle,  I didn't make it clear in my post  :O .  Tubular Bells was at  no.2  for 10 consecutive weeks in 1974,  (weeks 27-36 inclusive) :) .

According to this page it was Paul McCartney & Wings: Band On The Run. :)

Nah, I'm just dumb. Well that's interesting, Paul Mac for 7 weeks and HR for 3 weeks. That link Eeton is perfect as a referal for people wanting to vote for the Top 100 albums of all time in the 'NME Top 100 albums chart' thread. Isn't is funny, all soundtracks and Frank Sinatra until Elvis, the Beatles, Dylan and the Stones came along.

The One Hit Wonders page is interesing too. Doop came in at No.1 in 1994 never to be heard from again. I had a joke about this track in another thread. Anyone remember it? And lets hope another One Hit Wonder is the Crazy Frog!!!!!!

So you can vote for TBII, too. ;)
